As likely as not you have talk radio over there. I can`t cope wiith J O`Brien on the grounds that his is a Talk show where none but him gets to talk. I listen to LBC Radio on my way to work each morning. From 7am to 10am ( I think ) it`s the Nick Farrari Show. He let`s people / callers to his show dig in - with their oppinions. James O`Brien, it seems to me, likes to `put us right` according to his own oppinions. But in all ways I love talk radio over here, since for the most part most presenters open up their show with questions... and shortly are at the answering end of pertinent questions. You must have similar radio shows over there yonder ? In short, James O`Brian can`t shut up i his show.

LOL - there was no attempt at insulting your lack of intelligence... you are a UKIP supporter, that is suggestive enough that you are lacking intelligence without the need of me to add insult. I was merely offering a plausible explanation as to how you misheard the interview concerning foreign languages that clearly portrays Farage as a hypocrite. Obviously, an alternative explanation to your delusion is your lack of intelligence. Besides, nobody is arguing whether challenging UKIP's ideology helps or hinders the party... I am arguing that Farage is a hypocrite and that UKIP supporters would excuse the man of just about anything. You could catch Farage having sex with an 8 year old boy and UKIP supporters would have an excuse to deny that he was a paedo. BUT, just like Farage you are trying to win an argument by completely ignoring what is being argued.
@NymeriaMeliae
@NymeriaMeliae 9 жыл бұрын
The interviewer is first discussing people not using English on a train. There was no way for Farage to know if those people did not also speak English. When I am in public with my spouse, I rarely use English because I don't want other people listening in to what we are discussing. It does not mean I can't speak English - I was born here and my paternal line came to this country in 865AD. I have a mix of Viking, Angle, Scot, Irish, and Norman blood - in other words I am as British as they come. I find it slightly amusing that people who come to this country and are either immigrants, or second or third generation immigrants (let's remember Farage's great grandfather came from Germany), seem to think it is fine to dictate about immigration controls and try to revive racialism in a perverted notion that they are trying to protect traditional British culture. The interviewer also pointed out to Farage that it is a fallacy to presume that South London children at school do not also speak English as well as another language. He was pointing out that they are no different to Farage's own family. Farage's wife is German, his children are half German, they use German at home, and German is the mother tongue of his children. In other words, he is a hypocrite. Seriously, if you have a problem with immigration into this country then why not live up to your own convictions and leave... go back to where you come from instead of trying to change a proud tradition that our isles have held. I have no problem with you being in my country, I couldn't care what language you spoke, but I do find your own hypocrisy rather irksome. After all I am assuming by your profile that you are or were Argentinian... a country that is renowned by the saying: "the Argentinians are Italians who speak Spanish, act French and wish they were British"... Hardly a base from which to criticise immigration in the UK.
@NymeriaMeliae
@NymeriaMeliae 9 жыл бұрын
I am merely pointing out the hypocrisy of your posts by using your own arguments and the arguments of many UKIP members who want to stop immigration because they feel their sense of Britishness is being eroded. I have nothing against immigration to this country. I welcome it. It is not me that is espousing the proud tradition of these isles - re-read what I wrote. I think that culture is like language, it is constantly evolving and when it becomes static it has a habit of dieing out. When different cultures meet, it is best to embrace the best bits and forge ahead with a new culture. I welcome the merging of cultures into new cultures not the attempt to protect an illusion of tradition and not an attempt to integrate people into that illusion. There is no and has never been a singular British or even English identity. We are too regional. Not everywhere in the UK is subject to the pressures of immigration. Where I live they are closing schools and hospitals because there are not enough people to keep them economically viable. We are losing people from my region of the UK because of a lack of investment and they are moving to the South East in search of work. The problems that the South East is facing is as much to do with the domestic population migrating there in search of work as it is to do with immigration. As much as a London based media would like you to believe, you can't take the problems unique to the South East of England and apply it to the rest of the UK. If you count the number of people who have left the UK since the 18th century to present day and compare it to the number of people who have come into the UK during that time period - the figures are almost exactly the same. The problem is two-fold - first population distribution - we have a concentration in the South East while other areas of the UK are sparse (this is linked with regional investment - or lack of).... second, our population has risen because of improved hygiene and living standards meaning people are living longer. You need only go back to the generation that experienced WWII to a time where the majority of people had either lost or knew someone who had lost a child to sickness. Now it is almost unheard of... it is a rare enough occurrence that the majority of people do not personally know someone who has lost a child to sickness (of course it still happens but not as often). Population increase has more to do with domestic living standards than it does with immigration.

This was NOT an interview. Constant interruptions, manipulative twisting of words. The issue about speaking in different languages is that you don't know what people are saying. People also feel uncomfortable when people whisper. To me other languages don't make me uncomfortable but it's unfair to brand people as racist for this. He then tries to define racism which is perfectly acceptable, people define terms all the time in debates in order to make sure they're on the right page and this "interviewer" cheaply uses it to avoid defining it (makes it harder to twist peoples' words then) and implies that Nigel doesn't know what racism is. Depressingly pathetic standards of journalism. It's ok to have an issue with Nigel but don't take the 16 year old school boy bully routine.

In 1952 German Liz became Queen of England and took a solemn coronation oath to ‘Govern the peoples of the British Isles…..according to their respective laws and customs’. Liz reneged on that oath and has allowed the Royal Assent to be given to six EU treaties. We are now governed by the laws and customs of a foreign power in Brussels. Treason has been committed. Our constitution implies that foreign laws and customs in our country should be discriminated against in favour of our own. This is the acceptable face of racism because, in any country, it would keep the peace and help prevent overpopulation. To discriminate out of hatred or against someone’s colour of skin is the unacceptable face of racism. The Truth is always dual. Racism is good, racism is bad. Help Nigel return our own exclusive laws and customs to us.

Here's the key problem with UKIP. In the last 10 years the population has risen by 0.7% per year. That's a high figure because UKIP bases its policies on the 'unprecedented' immigration. Of this immigration makes up 0.39% of the total population rise. Quantitatively this has no impact on the UK whatsoever, because 0.39% per year over a human lifetime (of 70 years) means that public services, housing, food, water, energy supplies and healthcare will only have to rise by 1.31 times the amount they are now. If we solve the oil crisis (which we won't do by voting for UKIP because they don't believe in peak oil or climate change) we'll easily deal with this miniscule rise. If the population was going up by 2% the growth rate by 2085 (70 years away) would be 4 times the resources; if by 3% it would be 8 times, and if 4% it would be 16 times by 2085. In other words if the figure of the rise is below 2% you can consider it negligible. Thus the basis for pulling out of Europe and stopping immigration is without any FACTUAL basis. Vote Green. We also want a Referendum. Our policies are based on science not BULLSHIT.

In a modern globalised world, it is simply a fallacy to suggest that it is completely and entirely necessary to learn the mother language of a country. There are 5.5 MILLION ex-pat Britons living in foreign countries, many of which neither bother, or unable to speak the language of the country they reside in...do you hold the same reactionary views about their 'refusals to integrate' within their given social and cultural establishments? There is no evidential proof which directly shows that it is necessary to learn the language of the country you are living in. It helps, but to castigate young people for not knowing the language should not be a primary criticism lobbied at the state, there are FAR MORE pressing concerns.

If those 1 in 7 children don't speak English when they start school at the age of SIX. they will most definitely speak English by the ages of Eight. Which will then enable them to communicate and integrate. Speaking of children ages six not being able to integrate and communicate is ridiculous. Kids aged six BARELY need to speak in order to communicate and integrate . Stop arguing about petty subjects and just say that you don't like speakers of languages other than English. James thinks he was Jeremy Paxman here, Paxman respected Farage far more than this when he interviewed him. O'Brien has no idea of business and its uncomfortable to me that HE associates normal people with not being in business? As he said in the video. Many personal attacks irrelevant to UKIP's policies and didn't give Nigel any chance to answer properly. He was unnecessarily rude and taking vague comments made by Farage as on-the-face literal policy indicators. I believe Thatcher said that when someone resorts to personal references they've ran out of political arguments. Nigel's stance on EU is still barely refuted and has no hope of being by shoddy interrogators like this. I've often admired some of what James has said on BBC Big Questions etc. but clearly he has a very basic leftist liberal approach to politics and zero understanding of proper business and economics………as if he or anyone else will ask the other parties questions on expenses and its members.

James O'Brien thought he was being slick, what happened in the after math?! Farage was offered a job on LBC a few years later, after he became the stations biggest magnet time & time again in LBC's hunt for viewership. James continued to be mocked into farcical land & now wears embarrassing jumpers, which tells us his wife, a fashion writer, can't be spending too much time with him. Oh, Farage Brexit referendum which he pressured the Tories into offering the Nation won, the election which was 3 years ago has been stifled & kicked into the long grass via 400 remain politicians in British parliament. Cameron resigned after the Brexit referendum results in 2016. In May of 2019, PM Theresa May announced she'd be resigning in a few months. Farage left UKIP, started the Brexit Party, stormed to victory in the EU 2019 elections, smashing the Tories & Labour apart, the Lib Dems have become the party of Remaining in the EU, even after the referendum 3 years & counting, people still think don't worry about Democracy, just pretend like it didn't happen. Now it looks like Farage will be running in the general election, if Brexit is still denied beyond the new extended date of Oct 31 2019. Also, Boris Johnson is currently favourites to become the next Prime Minister. Couldn't make it up really. Oh, Tommy Robinson ran in the EU elections, despite having no social media capabilities because of big tech censorship in bed with left wing media & pressure groups. But he still managed to get about 2.5% in the North West. Did i mention James O'Brien wears ridiculously embarrassing jumpers!?

This was masterful journalism, this should be the bare minimum political journalism should be. Farage has had an easy ride with the media and it is time he faced some robust questioning. Those railing against this, saying it was stitch up etc, get a grip. If the man can not hold his own and face tough questioning then he is not fit to be a representative of the people. This interview showed what a ram shackle outfit UKIP is, with their story changing everyday of the week. And his director of communications bursting into the studio has absolutely damaged Farage's credibility.

TheSoundzUK I'm no raging leftie friend. My comment was mostly directed towards the standard of journalism, which has become so soft touch with our politicians. I lodge the same criticism towards all party leaders. But Farage cannot answer by saying "I don't Know." or "I've never heard of this person." That makes him look incompetent and a poor leader. But I say it again, he deserved this robust questioning, his parties shambolic policies etc have not been properly challenged until this interview. As for this Cyril smith, Harman business, that is desperate rubbish. These things took place years ago, they have no relevance to Farage being a competent individual, or the racist remarks by supporters and members of his party, which have occurred in the last few weeks. There are racists, bigots homophobes etc in every party and in every section of our society, so the idiocy of UKIP is nothing new in this country. My point is, if Farage cannot take a bruising without his party's spin doctors (what was that about him not being a member of the political establishment?) bursting in and shutting down scrutiny, then he is not fit to represent anybody, whether in Europe, Westminster or in some position of power.

Regardless of whether or not you support Farage or like O'Brien, is it really too difficult for people to understand that a radio presenter in a political interview is likely to try and outsmart and undermine the politician? How is O'Brien any one of the numerous insults seen in these comments for the simple act of doing his job? Equally, how is it that attacking any perceived ironies and hypocrisies between Nigel Farage's personal life and his party irrelevant? He is, after all, the leader of the party as he states, and therefore should represent their ethos. Highlighting any hypocrisies is no worse (in fact, nowhere near as bad) as all those comments indicating that we should blame all the other lying, sleazy politicians, and all those personal examples use. It's politics: personal life comes into play. Can people please stop being simultaneously hypocritical and unrealistic about expectations of radio presenters and politicians alike, and perhaps people may see at least a little where the people arguing here are coming from.

James is a very good interviewer but he interrupted Nigel too often. This is irritating, but I guess Nigel knew this would be the case. I can't help but think Nigel (and many people) are tired off the Left in particular banging on about race and racism. It's actually got quite tedious, however, I suspect the main parliamentary parties are doing it because UKIP have got to them. The truth is for years immigration policy has Been shambolic and most ordinary Britons believe this to be so. Labour were mainly responsible for it and the Tories, despite saying they would reduce immigration, didn't actually do much at all. They too are terrified of the race slur. What really matters to me (and many people) is getting our democracy back. No one voted for the EU. Successive governments since the mid 1970s have taken us deeper and deeper in to an organisation that has grown in size and power to the point where it has characteristics of the Soviet Union. This is frightening. It is something that has to be addressed before it's too late. Vote UKIP!

Anyway Britain and America are both turning into toxic xenophobic nightmares and there's nothing we can do about it, and Farage has helped cause it purely to satisfy his personal racist agenda and grudge against the EU

Not seen this before. What an unexpected treat to see the mendacious strawman wriggling, courtesy of O'Brien.

O'Brien loves to belittle anyone who has a different opinion to him. He's the one who is intolerant and Farage, although is no saint is not a racist, if he was he wouldn't have a show on LBC 4 nights a week where he actually understands other people's point of view. O'Brien I believe has a good heart but is so self righteous you can never have a sensible debate with him.

***** Well that would be remarkable indeed , I might ask how you would define a decent human being ? I think we all are even the likes of Farage and Tony Blair . Just because they have different opinions from you does not make them Good or bad human beings,

farage is standing up for the KKK, anti-muslem, anti-human rights. i'm sorry but he's an absolute idiot! Also LOL Tony Blair started an illegal war? how can u say he's a decent person? He illegally invaded a country and killed thousands, Millions of people over the course of several years!

"Hopefully, lot's of people can speak different languages". But if they speak those languages on a train he feels uncomfortable, but he says he doesn't object to it. But, because he doesn't object, just uncomfortable, he raises it on a national platform as a complaint, and his children don't have english as a first language, but he doesn't mind if they speak German at home, but does mind if someone else has english as a 2nd language, but then hopes lots of people can speak different languages. If you're feeling dizzy at this point then that's understandable.

This is why none of them go on his show any more. They'd get torn apart.
