It's a fun rendition. The original Pat Metheney song already hewed to a strong central theme, so stirring anime into the mix was natural

Beautiful work! I was really taken away by Pat’s double time lines with such a clarity and melodic presence. It’s not about fast, but the storytelling behind it, nicely mirrored in the piano solo later. Thanks for sharing. 👏

is the bridge of james really that hard? I don´t understand why some guitarists say that the bridge of jame is hard. I saw an interview of pat metheny explain the changes and it seem pretty easy. how do you practiced it?
@fenyvesijanos78055 ай бұрын
@raftag590899 it's easy to play over it in a mediocre or simply "okay" way, but to actually outline the chords is a different thing, when people improvise they usually use the patterns of the progression as guides (the 2 5 1s and the 3 6 2 5 1 other 2 5 1 4 etc) but the bridge has non of it, in a way it goes against everything you start out with ,studying in jazz. on the guitar too for example when you arpegiate lines and form licks on the go and improvise, after a while u are not actually thinking about chords but the motion of going up a fourth (in a 2 5 let's say, you don't think of Cm7 F7 but the ascending fourth motion thats happening, this also why real experienced jazz players can pretty much play any tune by figuringing it out in the midst of a jam session, cuz they listen to the motion rather then the actual notes of chord. so longstory made short, it's a real unusual harmonic pattern, it's pretty much unique to this tune

Bartley sounds a lot like David Sanborn here, which is kind of too bad. Sanborn is incredible; I would like to have heard Patrick do something else here. Oh, well. There is a video on KZbin of Michael Brecker playing this tune with PM. He takes it to all sorts of interesting places. Sounds like no else. Find inspiration in the unique.
@Frisbieinstein Жыл бұрын
Japanese sax players tend to the Sanborn tone.
@biwc-erie36189 ай бұрын
David Sanborn might an influence, but this sound is all Patrick. His phrases are distinctive and “in the moment.” Lots of different influences are present, Cannonball and Parker are clearly heard; and maybe a bit of Hank Crawford and Gerald Albright. What I like most is the smile on the piano player’s face. Clearly he appreciates the work and performance of Patrick! Excellent work.😊

@@PatrickBartleyMusic 😂 Apart from the first-rate talent, I love the joy in your playing. This isn't something I can find easily in contemporary music.
@jorymil3 күн бұрын
I dig this. Patrick has a very anime-tinged sound, even down to the vocal inflections. Because of the pentatonics, there's a lot of similarity between anime music melodically and the sort of R&B stuff David Sanborn does, but this hits me more deeply. Nobody sounds like Patrick, either. And you'd be crazy to copy Mike Brecker!
