North and South is just about the greatest mini-series ever produced. Maybe only second to Roots. Truly magnificent. I watch it regularly. REST IN PEACE Patrick Seayze and Kirstie Alley.

Thank you so much for all these North and South interviews! George Hazard, as a friend, is the best kind of friend anyone could ever hope for. His support for Orry was beyond what anyone could expect in life. Their friendship is my favorite part of this remarkable and one-of-a-kind miniseries. I do want to mention, since you are interviewing him, that James Read's portrayal of George Hazard was strength and grace. George was strong enough to be courageous when it mattered and did not hide or suppress emotional vulnerability. He never appeared weak but always had balance. These are incredible qualities for a man to have, and I have shed tears more than once while watching the scene where he says goodbye to his sister Virgilia. Also loved the scene where he punched Bent in defense of what happened to Orry.

I was 7 years old when North & South aired in Denmark in 1987 - and I have loved it ever since ❤️

While we can't escape Father Time, he still has the voice of the George Hazard we all loved when the miniseries was made so long ago. Yes, so many of those great actors from that series "are gone."

I’m watching North And South now. Some episodes are on KZbin and some I’ve watched on Safari. It’s a wonderful miniseries and James Read is my favorite actor in the series. I’m glad that his character in the series is a good person and Patrick is wonderful in it too. I wish Patrick was still here of course.

I am from Tennessee now living in Florida. My girlfriend is from New York City. We have discussed buying a house and getting married in about a year. We have discussed this series this week. What would have happened had we been around then? She commented that war rarely if ever solves anything.

I have studied war since I was four months old. Now 48. If I had been around before the Civil War, I would have pointed out to the people in the South that going to war would mean dealing with an adversary that has a larger population, finance, industry, logistics. The South on the hand has a hard time making a decent pair of shoes. It is totally dependent on raw materials which then has to be sent North or to England to be converted into finished goods. The longer the war goes on, these advantages would be fully mobilized while Southern resources fall apart.

I would also have pointed out to people in the North that Southerners may not have much materially speaking. But they are resilient, resourceful, used to hardship and when it comes to home and family, they will fight back. Both sides thought the war was going to last a few months. Both sides also thought of war as being an adventure or romantic. Both sides ended up being wrong.

What's funny about these North and South interviews is they all say the same thing: North and South Book Three sucked! I appreciate their candor. The actual book wasn't that great either.
