I watched a JT interview where JT says he is 62. That would be in around 2010 (born 1948). In that video he mentioned ultimately being bored of drugs when he was 35. That would be in 1983. This interview was apparently 1977 when he was 29. If all this is true, he was not finished with drugs when this interview took place.

I'm so glad to hear someone, at last, in a media 'place' make the point Carly does here. So important. I know so many people who either take drugs to 'enhance' their time with people or to enable themselves to be more relaxed with others, those they know best and hold most dear in fact. They're not getting the true experience of knowing other people and the natural 'tensions', or maybe the word should be 'anomalies', which make life worth living...AND people worth knowing! "Fear of intimacy'...Carly says...with yourself and with others.

Wish I knew what he was saying with that thumbs up at the end, kind brought a rapid dose of levity to the situation, which seemed to be honest in his main attempt, he doesn’t want kids wasting their time in his name
@EVRYMANaKING3 жыл бұрын
I believe he gave the thumbs up because Carly jumped in with her thoughts knowing he was uncomfortable with the discussion and what to say next and it gave him a quick reprieve from the close up camera and focus on him, a pretty good girlfriend move in my book. Cheers.

The word drugs is to vague when used like this. Although i agree that generally speaking the majority of mind altering chemicals when strictly use for escape, denial, or avoidance are an extreme waste of time. However, we know that if used with the correct intention a small portion of these chemicals are actually beneficial to thise whom will still have the tendancy to deny or run from the challenging snd painful experiences of ones existence even if bone dry sober.

*The thing about drugs in general is that you cannot really be honest about it, especially in public of course. Nobody ever talks about the central notion of it and the very reason why people take drugs in the first place : PLEASURE. And talking about drugs without any reference to PLEASURE is like talking about Brighton without ever mentionning the poofters !*

I don't agree completely with the sentiments shared, and I feel they are ignoring some benefits of drugs and induced states. That being said, I like how Taylor frames his "introduction to this kind of abuse"
@DenkyManner2 жыл бұрын
He's talking primarily about heroin. There are things to be learned from certain drugs in certain circumstances (psychedelics), but only a certain amount and used exceptionally sparingly, like every 5 years or more. Habitual use of any drug is a waste of time.

I’ve heard SO many people’s stories like this. It’s a fascinating thing that no matter who you are, boring regular citizen or a star like James Taylor, everybody has this super Obvious desire to encapsulate what addiction is in the most dramatic and poignant way. Annoying after you’ve heard a few.

I had a high school friend who introduced cigarettes and marijuana into my life. I could never really understand what the appeal was. For him chemical substances provided entertainment. I think I was very lucky not to find either of particular benefit. Now, as an adult I see our lives as very different. I am an artist and architect who values having technical skills and being highly productive. Neither of those can be enhanced with either tobacco or weed. (I'm not into alcohol either, which greatly annoys my alcoholic friend Anne. It would enrage her whenever I left half a glass of beer at a restaurant table, having had all I wanted.)
@andrewanderson17552 жыл бұрын
You sound very judgmental. It's possible to be "highly productive" without putting others down.
@rr7firefly2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewanderson1755 I find your comment humorous because this "lady" Anne is the most haughty and cruel person I have ever met. Several people who know her well have expressed to our neighborhood group how often they had to restrain themselves from slapping her across the head. As for substances that interfere with critical thinking I have noticed how my stoner friends have poor ability to remember anything. They constantly ask me, "How is it that you know so many amazing details about people and things?" I always refrain from telling them that, "I did not compromise my mental functioning with habitual pot smoking over many years." My friend Bob now has serious heart problems that might be associated with his bad habit.

A nice sentiment but not terribly honest. If his headspace wasn't so bleak, he wouldn't have escaped via drugs in the first place. Happy contented people don't just get mixed up with heroin.
