Nice versions of James throughout the years. I also remember having an Early Engineers James many years ago. I really like the 2022 James although the only thing I’d improve on it is to make his wheels more flushed with his body and tender.

Probably just an early production batch. I think the unpainted dome was meant to be a stand-in for his gold dome, but maybe the people at the Britt Allcroft Company thought it looked cheap.

3:25 Like that version of James. Also any classic Thomas episodes that had to do with James that were my favourite are old iron and James goes buzz buzz. Also foolish freight cars, make someone happy, and James and the trouble with trees too (mostly because of the twelve DVDs of classic Thomas that I decided to keep around, Salty’s secret, Thomas’ trackside tunes, make someone happy, spills and chills, gallant old engine/Henry and the elephant, cranky bugs, Thomas’ Christmas wonderland, races rescues and runaways, Thomas and the special letter, 10 years of Thomas, best of Thomas and Thomas and his friends help out).

The 2001 James was my first and it's still probably my favorite admittedly. Like Thomas I really like the simplistic look that still incorporates more detail without feeling overly detailed - and I gotta appreciate the gold dome. Granted my 2001 James' paint is pretty run down with how much I played with it so the 2022 one is my new 'default' in my series and when just setting up my own personal layouts lol

The wooden brake blocks arent necessarily an alteration of just james as during ww1 as to save on metal most locomotives were built with wooden or some other non metal kind of brake blocks

Here’s how I’d rank James’ Models: #1 2003 James, Easily the best of the 2003 Bunch, I have so much nostalgia for this James, and the face is 100% accurate. It may not be as detailed as most James’, but I don’t care. 10/10 #2 2013 James, A Great Representing of the character, Great Face and Amazing Detail. 9/10 #3 The Original James from the 90s, iconic. 7/10 #4 2019 James, it’s just the 2018 James but with a better paint job. 6/10 #5 2017 James, the face ruins it. 3/10 #6 2011 James, the face also ruins it. 3/10 #7 2022 James, Their are so many things wrong with this, Small Boiler, Poorly done handrails, Unsettling Face, Missing Whistle, Disgusting Wheels, and of course the most glaring issue, His Length, Like I said with Edward, I understand why they did it, and that he was probably this long in the railway series, but these are based of their TV Series counterparts, not the railway series. 1/10 #8 2018 James, Gross in everyway imaginable. 0/10

I'm loving these reviews, keep it up!! But I'm wondering if I'm the only one who really doesn't like any of the 2022 Wooden Railway designs. The wheel's mold/printing looks bad, not to mention they look too wide on the chassis, making the trains look like monster trucks. The faces are too noticeably from All Engines Go, so they look silly (the eyes too low down etc.) And they try to give them the accurate amount of wheels, which doesn't always work . . . I prefer James with six wheels to monster truck James . . . Thomas Wooden Railway was never mostly about accuracy, but to give a spin to the character/engine, that was iconicly Wooden Railway. That's why I loved Thomas Wooden Railway, it was it's own special thing, and it was perfect . . . In my opinion, the 2022 trains aren't Thomas Wooden Railway, but an embarrassed Mattel's response to Thomas Wood's failure.

Don’t get me wrong I like 2022 TWR but James in my opinion is the weakest of the new redesigns. His firebox is to wide his smokebox is to long and there’s that ugly gap between his driving wheels that really bugs me. I honestly don’t know why they didn’t give him a chassis like 2003 TWR Arthur or Murdoch.
