It helps simulate real matches. Practicing them only a few times during the week makes that practice much more similar to a real situation where you have to perform first time.

I have been saying the same thing. Especially after seeing Rashford shoot the Free Kick towards the end of the game. No offense, but Rashford is not an elite level Free Kick taker. James Ward-Prowse is 4 Free Kicks away from tying Beckham and he is 28 years old. How the hell did he not make the team? What is Conor Gallagher and Jack Grealish doing on the bench when you need fast young players to compete/help throughout the tournament. IMO, they should not let Gareth Southgate coach the International Team again. So much talent repeatedly falling way too short.

@@marvaff6878 and what did he do when you needed him? He has been on the bench for the majority of the season for Man Utd. James Ward Prowse plays regularly. At the bare minimum he should have been on the bench. You could of subbed him in to hit a potentially game tying free kick goal. He is a few free kicks away from tying David Beckham's EPL record. Do you want Rashford or James Ward Prowse to take the free kick? There are a lot of players being underutilized for England. For example, Connor Gallagher and Jack Grealish. What are both of those players doing on the bench for the whole game when you need some speed and youth? Foden was weirdly utilized as well. Leave it to England to have a good team in full short again. There's a reason they have a record amount of quarterfinal World Cup exits... Poor tactics routinely... Standard England WC protocol.

When watching the Sky Sports clip of his Premier League free kick goals, I noticed he would always stand with his right leg back - but then takes a quick extra step back off his left foot in the run up to striking the ball. Here, I noticed what I didn't then: after he places the ball, he taps/lightly pushes off his left foot right by the ball, before taking 4 steps back - with a smaller 5th landing on the right (and a little "left-right-left" bounce to set himself). He then does the aforementioned step back with the left to commence the run up: a mini step and another 2 - before striking on the 4th - and it's in the back of the net. The semi-involuntary "drag" of his left foot seems to serve as both a follow through on the shot and an "extension" of it. Biomechanically speaking, the whole sequence is sublime. I'm not surprised he practices it so little now, because it's all muscle memory. A crying shame he wasn't in the World Cup squad.
