Michael Courtney. I lived in the Poconos and fed cats. We always had tons of abandoned cats at the end of the summer. Saddest thing you ever saw. People would discard the cats that they had adopted at the beginning of summer and get rid of them when they would go home. My husband and I also fed deer. People would complain about the deer eating their flowers. We didn't care. If I had anything on my property that could fill a belly they were welcome to it. What is more important, a full belly or flowers. I always felt a fully tummy. Yes I could understand people not wanting their flowers eaten but it just wasn't important to me.

You've obviously never experienced raccoons ripping through your trash every night, and having to clean up after them every morning. They also often find their way into attics and can seriously damage wiring, shingles, etc. There was that one story of a homeowner's ceiling collapsing because of all the urine from raccoons who would somehow find a way in. They can be a real nightmare so that's why people may hate them.
@AlexandraPeters704 жыл бұрын
You sound like my Hubby & i understand that......but i don't hate them. Btw , i don't feed mine every night , but i know they can cause some damage on roofs, etc. That's why i don't over do it. Seems like James here never had these kind of problems...so he is good. But i wonder what would happen, if he stops feeding them....that's the big question.....they would find a way maybe into his house or basement ? @@user-tn9sb5ci3f

Hi James, just discovered your channel and Love it! I am in Canton Michigan USA about 45 minutes from the Canada/US ambassador bridge. I feed EVERYTHING! And I mean everything! HA! I do not discriminate, I love all animals I get deer that come through the yard, read some families I have muskrat families that come back every winter and come up to the deck to feed from their holes in the ground, I have been feeding for so long that unfortunately I created a bit of a killing field, a few years ago we had an eagle move in to the tall Pines and he was going after the baby skunks and raccoons he has since moved on thank goodness, I think he scared us as much as we scared him we had a fairly large storm one day and my garage door was open and that eagle literally was sitting in my garage on top of a street hockey net, when I opened the door from the house to go out he took flight and I swear to God his wingspan was the entire garage, that was actually the last time I ever saw him. Two years ago this coming Christmas we had Canadian wolves, three of them, they showed up at the beginning of the summer, one night when I went out into my backyard via the deck and I thought I was seeing dogs sitting out near the berm at the back of my yard, I quickly realized they were not, no one else spotted them but me, I would step out onto my deck at night and I could see their eyes and I could see that they were just sitting there watching the house or watching me, I’m not sure which, this happened numerous times one time in the middle of the day I went out to get in my vehicle and one of them was sitting on my driveway in broad daylight like he was waiting for me to step out! they showed zero aggression, they would just walk off as though they were used to human beings, it was really really strange, I contacted every DNR office I could think of and told them what was going on and they insisted that it must be dogs until a farmer a couple miles away from me shot one of them as it was trying to go after his life stock, then the DNR from northern Michigan came down and sat up camp at the back of my property trying to spot them and decide if they could trap or not, they never did see them, fast forward to Christmas Eve getting ready to head to midnight mass with my husband we were pulling out of our subdivision and all three wolves came jumping over the berm into the road.. they stopped right in the middle of the road and looked right through the windshield at us and then just walked on across the road into the field and away, we had slammed on our brakes and a car coming the other direction slammed on its brakes everyone got out of the car my husband was like that was a wolf! and the person in the other vehicle said were those wolves? and I said yes! I have been telling you that there are wolves here!, Unfortunately that was the last time I ever saw them, fast forward to six months after that I just happened to be in a mall and a young Native American Indian man came up to me and said excuse me Mrs. but my grandfather would like to hold your hands? I was of course speechless stunned, etc. this is a complete stranger in a mall, you have to understand my personality to get this but I complied, I walked over to the fountain where one of the oldest human beings I have ever personally seen was sitting long hair pulled back clearly Native American and gave him my hands, the two of them spoke to each other in a language that I do not speak, the older gentleman let go of my hands the young man looked me in the eyes and said my grandfather says you are of the wolf spirit and that he was very happy to have met me, I was once again stunned, and I proceeded to tell him the story of my wolves, he told his grandfather who told him to tell me that they were here for a reason and that reason was to apparently protect me from some thing and that once they were gone I would never see them again. This is a true story, one that I have told numerous times, lastly my great great great grandmother was Apache, and according to the family story she was traded by the Indians to my grandfather as a wife we do have pictures of her and him together but no one will ever really know the true story. I will continue watching you and your raccoons as I Love them now also. Hugs from the U.S. Lori.

I have been feeding raccoons for years now. They come to the breezeway door every night and get some handouts. This year there are three adults and three little ones. Ocassionally a possum will show up and they become tame too, but they have a short lifespan so they usually disappear after a few months. They're all very enjoyable to watch.

Ive never seen this before. This is great. Ive always been the type to "talk" and make friends with outdoor critters. We had raccoons come to our other place but we moved from there 7 years ago. Now we are in an apartment and have to be careful. People freak out and will complain to management and could cost me the roof over my head. But i dont look for them. They find me. Animals will do like that. I live in florida near water so i get plenty of birds etc. If there is a storm coming or big change in the weather, im the 1st to know. I dont need to even watch the weather. They (my critter friends) will carry on. And i dont care for snakes and they know this. If im standing near one the bluejays carry on. So they all have my back. I feed them but do not leave any outside cause of the neighbors. But i carry peanuts in my pockets. They give me joy and company. Im glad to see im not alone.

You know how sometimes in life, you never know how much you actually need something until you see it? I needed this in my life and never knew until now.

You have a heart of gold caring for these sweet, helpless animals who most people think are a nuisance and actually hurt them in horrific ways. Thank you so very very much for caring! The world needs more people like you in it to show how much love for ANY live being can bring about change.

I love your videos! I can’t wait til they feel safe to bring the babies up on the porch Most wild animals stop eating when they get full. It’s like his children he corrects them when they don’t share. Priceless. Grandma in AZ :)

Jim, I just subscribed after finding ya last week. I'm a 63 year old outdoorsman from Upstate NY. I find what you do with the raccoons to be fascinating, and very cool to watch. I've never interacted with these animals like you do. But do we have a good population of em around here. Keep making these video's, and I'll keep watching em!! God bless you sir.

Do you take contributions to help with the cost of feeding them? Thank you for sharing these videos. For those of us who are overwhelmed with the news, both Political & Covid and tired of self isolating, watching you honor your late wife's request to take care of the Raccoons is a welcome diversion.
