Spain Revealed - James Blick I’m vegan. It would be nice to have a video dedicated to asking for special needs/interest dining, or even restaurants/locations that are ADA friendly. I have found a large vegan/vegetarian community and venues in Madrid & Alcala de Henares. I believe there’s pretty good material that can make for an interesting video. This also gives discussion to Mision Abolista (anti-bullfighting) and other green-friendly initiatives that are growing in Spain. Gracias!

I am English and my husband is Spanish. We live on a very small island in the Canaries. I am going back to a video where you state that the Spanish do not say "please" and "thank you" much. My husband does not use those words in or out of the house. I say them often, and it is nice to see the lovely smiles I get from waiters and in shops. Maybe we should all say "please" and "thank you" more often, It brightens the working day of many people who may feel unappreciated! Many thanks for your videos. Hope you make many more!

@@saralampret9694 No no... Monsieur's imaginary conversation would be between the waiter and the kitchen. This is what happens... You walk into the bar and ask for a ración de calamares. The waiter screams, even before you finish your order, UNA DE CALAMARES! He does this so the calamares come out of the kitchen as soon as possible. In this scenario Niño is whoever is taking orders in the kitchen.
@MattEdwards1
@MattEdwards1 5 жыл бұрын
Something I've found as a beginner is this kind of scenario which I think would be great to see you act out and solve! Basically, just asking for water (or whatever) isn't normally the end of the conversation! There are some very common responses the answers to which would be so useful to learn and get used to! So, here's the problem that I always have in such simple scenarios as asking for, say, a coffee and a water. I pluck my courage up and say "Un cafe Americano y un agua por favor"....then the waiter/waitress will say something back which I won't catch and I'll have to resort to my single most-used Spanish phrase: "Lo siento pero no hablo Espanol!" Hehe :) I think being prepared for those kinds of situations will be hugely beneficial! Things such as "con gas?" or (as you mention in this video "botella" or "copa". This kind of thing happens to me ALL THE TIME! Lol 🙈😂. PS Keep up the fantastic content, my wife and I absolutely love Spain, not long returned from Christmas break in Malaga, and heading to Madrid in April, can't wait!

I was in Spain on my summer break from University during the Franco period then I returned this May, 2018. I did not recognize Spain. People are much nicer, and the cops were not as scary. I found Spain to be tolerant and welcoming with immigrants to my pleasant surprise. Compared to the US, I found very little racism even toward Africans.

This is a really important and informative video, because (for native speakers of English especially), the Spanish language is chock full of 'false friends.' Many words in Spanish that sound and even are, very similar to words in English. However, these words often possess meanings equally or totally different. For example: 'Menu'. La carta is correct, as the former actually pertains to 'menu del dia' - a sort of fixed price meal. Or, 'listo', which correctly translated colloquially, doesn't mean a number of differing items, but is understood as 'pristine' - and so on. Which, for all foreigners in Spain, is the best reason for practicing Spanish and talking to strangers. Acquirin knowledge and immersing in Spanish culture and everyday manners.

Now that we're in our final preparation for our trip to Spain starting next week, we thought it good to go back through some of your posted videos. Great reminders on places to go and how to do things, like ordering. BTW - you seem "so young" on some of them!!

Thank you for this and your other videos. Heading to Spain in late March and I'm now more confident and comfortable in my ability to get around and manage some basic interactions. You two are awesome....and totally adorable!!

Excellent content. My wife is fluent in Spanish but I stumble along with all I’ve picked up along the way and these phrases are simple and perfect. Unfortunately in Madrid as soon as anyone detects a whiff of your imperfect Spanish they tend to reply in near perfect English, French or German, making it difficult to practice. But, keep trying and your confidence will progress along with your knowledge of the language.

We just discovered your videos and love you! We love travel videos, but try to eat and live as locals. We ran out of videos that we useful and informative and then we discovered you!. We have been to Spain many times and every time we inevitably end up in at least one tourist trap (always a bummer)- your tips have been super helpful and we are planning on binge watching all your Spain videos before our next visit in a month! Thanks James and Yoly! We are preparing for our first trip to Spain from the US at the end of the month and your videos are super helpful, and fun. We are looking forward to our stay in Madrid. Our apartment is not too far from Casa Toni so we are looking forward to stopping in for a drink or two and tapas!

I’d love a video about ordering tickets at a museum/attraction. Tips on parking as well (we’ve heard parking is a nightmare all over Spain).

I’m going to Spain in a month. I just found your channel and I am really enjoying the videos. I have not gone through all of them yet. I’d love to see one with every day phases in Spanish like; where do I get the bus/taxi, train. Bathroom facilities, grocery store, police, hospital, pharmacy.

Vosotros dos sois alucinantes. La mirada de amor que muestra Yoli por James me calienta el corazón. Además, James, it's hard to believe you're from New Zealand, because your intonations and how you use English sounds VERY American -- California to be specific. You guys are the best -- keep up the great work!

One other thing -- I've lived in Madrid 4 years now and have been afraid to try certain foods, because I didn't know what they were. After all this time, your video taught me that boquerones were fried anchovies. Who knew?! Well the good news is that I dislike anchovies as much as I do the kind of fish I (incorrectly) thought this was, so either way no big loss LOL.
