I live up in Goldendale, WA, about 60 road miles from Hood River. I've visited the museum there several times since I moved here in 2016. It turns out the museum has an aircraft , a parasol wing Fairchild, that belonged to the late Ed Marquardt, designer of the Marquardt Charger sport biplane. I had the pleasure of flying in the Fairchild with Ed some years ago out of Flabob Airport, Rubidioux, CA. I'm not a pilot, but Ed graciously let me take the controls and fly the little bird for awhile. I wasn't aware that WAAM had acquired the Fairchild, so imagine my surprise when I finally saw it there!

What fun to fly multi-ship. I've not had that opportunity yet. I'm looking forward to flying with a couple of Cubs and Champs at my airport.

Love all the museum aircraft. I've watched the video several times now to 'pause' on the various aircraft to get a better look. Some rare vintage aircraft there...don't see a lot of those types here in the UK. I'd love to see that amazing Boeing 40 in real life.

That's lovely to hear. And that Boeing 40 is really amazing, we're lucky to have it based so close, and to see it living and breathing.

Lovely video again thanks James - Hood River is an amazing place - what a collection.The time we visited was during the huge forest fire a couple of years ago so and the fly in was heavily curtailed,we did get a ride in a 1918 Stanley Steamer and a couple of Model T's.We also loved the Madras collection,unfortunately no flying that day - I had seen a couple of the a/c at Tillamook many years ago (2001 ?).

Nice. We planned to go up there that year, but cancelled due to the fires. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

@@JamesGood very wise - we had not heard about the fire as we had only just arrived from UK and had to drive straight up to Madras,and then on to Hood the next day,we stayed in a cr@ppy motel in the Dalles :)

Hey James glad to see this segment I thought you launched with one of the other Ercoupe's when you left. It was crazy that was for sure. I finally got my channel up and going and started up the videos flying the TriPacer still un-named but having fun. We (Nancy & I) hope to catch up with you guys this summer and do some flying together. If you get a chance please check out the videos and let me know what you think. A couple of them are older from few years back that I moved over to my focused channel and a new video should be up either tonight or tomorrow once I get a chance to finalize it. Keep doing what you do enjoy all of your content and look forward to catching up soon. Glenn

You are in good company James. Especially while in Hood River. Lots of very historical and awesome machines. While enroute to Madras, you were flying with good guys and you should learn a lot from that leg of flying back home. I know you did..... Note, you were NOT using FF and that allowed you to make plenty of decisions yourselves without having their fricken safety blanket wrapped around you. Good stuff...... And your video didn't suffer at all. We still got the full flavor of what was going on. Nice job....... Weav

Where did you get the signage you used while displayed? I'd like to duplicate. Also, I need to get a new canopy cover. Did yours come with 805 or did you find a place to make it?

I keep wanting to visit the big September fly-in at Hood River. Pretty challenging being so far away (60 miles). I just gave away an old leather flight helmet - you might want one if you keep flying open-cockpit. Not sure it would work with your fancy in-ears though. Good dining choice, Twin Peaks And thanks for the museum and grounds tour. We do have some spectacular volcanic terrain in Central Oregon! MAD-russ - you got it right eventually :-)

I love your style here... just walk around and show us some awesome stuff (both at the show and the museum). No crazy over-produced flashy video here. Just an honest ground-level presentation. I appreciate that. :-) I have very much enjoyed this series, James. But I almost missed this one. I saw my e-mail notice and clicked immediately, but it was marked as "Private" at that time. Then I happened to see it recommended to me later, as I didn't get a second e-mail when you made it public.

Two questions. If I may? What is the red thing hanging by the windscreen and what is the white box, though I think it has something to do with the Go-Pros but I am not sure, so that is why i am asking? The other thing I would like to know is, is the view from the Stearman as bad as it looked in the video? I was offered a flight in a bi-plane but missed my chance, so I will never find out. I missed my chance as the owner got caught in wind-shear and ended up in some trees, but he survived with a few scratches but the aircraft was scrap. I'm sure it was a Tiger Moth. It amazes me how some of those things get off the ground. I digress, but when you see the huge Airbus on the ground and then see it take off it fills me with amazement to see a thing that size leave the ground for the skies. Loved the inclusion of the old Boing, it was great to see it. I noticed the sea plane with the one float, I saw someone fly it on a KZbin video, amazing machine. Thanks for a look around at some of the unusual aircraft.
@JamesGood4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob. The red thing is a Garmin InReach. It's a GPS/Satellite 'personal locator beacon' that I can hit an SOS button on if I go down in the mountains... Also, Diane can see where I am. It doesn't need a phone cell signal, works everywhere. The white box is not for the GoPro's, it's an ADS-B IN receiver / GPS and carbon monoxide alert device. It's called a Sentry. Biggest thing it does for me is to be a GPS receiver for my iPad navigation software, and also to show me where other aircraft are in flight.
@BoB4jjjjs4 жыл бұрын
@@JamesGood Ah ok, I get the red thing. The white box I always wondered as I see it in other videos and I got to wondering what it was. Thanks for answering my questions.
@andrewmcvicker78244 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob - to answer your question about visibility from the Stearman, your assessment is correct, visibility is limited. Traffic avoidance is much easier with someone helping from the front seat and pattern work is definitely something you have to train to, have to learn to really trust peripheral inputs
@BoB4jjjjs4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewmcvicker7824 Thanks for answering that Andrew. I looked at the footage on the video and thought it was quite limited, but never having been up in anything like that I wasn't very sure, So thanks for the info.
