Thanks man,, such a sensible review. Showing one after the other so a real comparison can be seen. Why don't more people do this. Good job.

Man! Complete unblanketing of the guitar, congrats on the awesome sound upgrades!!! It's like a completely different guitar!!

Thanks for making a proper comparison by paying the same riffs and editing the takes to cohesively organize them.

Wow, a huge difference in tone. Like someone took the quilt off your amp. Great demo, thanks for posting.

Big difference! Great playing. P90s sound articulate and yet creamy. Great sound.

The Dream 90s sound better, but your playing made both sets of pickups sound awesome!

AWESOME whammy type effect by shaking the guitar at the heel. I will try this tonight on my SG. Im also going to buy these pups. Perfect review. Thank you

Thanks --the difference is huge and I have a Dream 90 that's been in a drawer for years and I couldn't remember what it was like. I'm installing it in a cheap guitar that I have upgraded massively with things from my parts bins.

I just bought a second-hand Les Paul copy with a PAF-style humbucker in the bridge and a Dream 90 in the neck. I received the bridge Dream 90 and neck PAF-style pickups along with the guitar, but I have to admit I think the previous owner was spot-on about the PAF @ bridge and Dream 90 @ neck. That combo brightens up the neck without completely throwing the Les Paul sound out the window. Great demo, thanks!
@leonardsullivan6 жыл бұрын
Love that combo idea! Im really interested in these dream 90's! Incredibly cheap used So how is the noise issue? Normally 90s are terribly noisy but I heard that with the metal casing that these bucks the hum pretty well? What's your honest opinion?

The Dream 180s are pretty sweet.... basically a P90 humbucker. Put a Dream 180 in the bridge and a Mean 90 in the neck, Alpha 500k pots, and wire out of an old juke box... sounds really good. The guitar started life as a KK Tribal Warlock... stripped it, stained the white poplar body teal, maple on maple reversed headstock Strat neck(big pre CBS of course), brass wraparound bridge.... it turned out pretty cool.

Well done comparison and great choice of pickups. I am doing a tele mod and this is leaning me towards the GFS P-90/Dream 90. And I have been a Seymour Duncan user for many years.

Very cool, the Dream 90's were definitely a good upgrade! I'm looking at the Mean 90's and this was very helpful too. Thanks!

Does this pickup hum like a true P90, or has the plus side of being hum-free (noise cancelling) like a humbucker, despite of sounding (almost) like a "real" P90??
@paxonearth7 ай бұрын
Wow, that's quite a difference!

Good stuff, buddy. All that was muddy went away. How much noise do the the P90s make when loud?

Awesome. Although to top off the pickups... a treble bleed circuit would be nice to ensure great tone at all volumes

What is the year of your SG EPIPHONE model? I have a black one that looks like yours, but it loss the serial number and I am not shure about the year witch it was manufactured.

Did you change the pots at all? I've got a partscaster with 2 Dream 180 humbuckers in it and I'm finding them to be too dark and hot for my taste. Just wondering if 500k pots will make a difference in the Dream 90 character.
@jimm85946 жыл бұрын
Did you change the electronics at all, like switching to 250k pots?

is that humbucker that bad? it sound like ur tone was like turned all the way down?
@JamesHLMusic8 жыл бұрын
I think there was also possibly a wiring issue with both the humbucker and the 90 which caused significant tone cut. I'll make an updated video eventually.

Did you feel like you lost bottom end? Or is it just hidden underneath the more pronounced treble?
@wiseguy92027 жыл бұрын
Great and all but I'd rather have the stock humbuckers. Especially for the growl.

You're right, the original pickups sucked; sound like they were being played under a pillow or somethin'. The GFS pickups sound infinitely better.

I had this same exact Epiphone SG, those stock pick ups are horrible. I was also planning to change the pick ups to P90's but i got rid of the guitar anyway.

It's exactly the same dimensions as a standard humbucker, they're meant to replace humbuckers.

So, where's the comparison? "Old pickups" tells me nuthin. All I know is that the Dream 90s sound better than whatever they were.
@timhallas42755 жыл бұрын
Take the cover off the GFS dream 90 and guess what you'll find in there... a $5 Chinese single coil shoved inside a humbucker case. It's not even a p-90 single coil...it's the same as you get in the cheap humbuckers from china. This is a cheap humbucker wit one coil missing. It sounds like that too.
