Watching it as a kid, his mom's death totally wrecked me. As an adult, Littlefoot running towards his shadow was just the movie completely trying to ruin me at my core. Being driven into absolute delusion by grief and despair, hoping that his mom was alive, only to essentially witness her death all over again when he comes to his senses was so crushing. Even modern movies for adults don't really tackle these emotions or experiences as intensely as this.

She really helped me cope with my autism and was such a caring, kind and loving dog. In her last few months you could tell she knew her time was running out and she tried to spend as much time with me as she could. Many times she'd come to my room and lie on my desk on one of her blankets and just watch whatever with me. She passed away in my arms

This is the first time I've ever cried over a celebrity death. James Horners music has been such a intricately woven part of my life since childhood. His music was there to entertain, encourage, and comfort me as I grew up. One of the reasons I have such a passion for music. He has always been my favorite film composer. The depth of emotion he put into his works spoke to my soul on many levels. I cried several times listening to scores today, reminiscing good times.

Daniel Selk When you're a kid, you can feel scared about the idea of losing your mother, but unless you're an orphan, when the movie is over you can remember that you just watched something fictional, and go hug her, because she will never leave you. When you're an adult, and your mother is pushing 60, aging more each year, you realize that one day she will eventually leave you, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it.

When Horner died, I was in Croatia on a short holiday. I was on a middle of a long walk in the hottest part of the day, and when read the news, somehow I instantly wanted to listen to the Land before time soundtrack, which is something I never done before, despite I love so much of Horners work. At Whispering winds, I almost lost it in the middle of the street, I hardy held back the crying. I was 25, but it was the first time I truly felt, that my childhood irreversebly passed away, and on that day, a part of it died (which wasnt true, since Horners music lives with us). I felt horrible. Now I am 33, I have a 2 years old daughter, and I cant wait to show her this diamond of my childhood, this masterpiece of animation, to watch it together. Life is a truly fucked up and weird thing, but I guess its beautiful because of these things.

I just found out that the little girl who played ducky, her body was found on July 28th 1988, she was murdered by her father, and also her mother was murdered. Several months before this movie came out. I knew this movie was sad when I was 4 years old, but now I am in tears because now I know the true tragedy behind this movie. The first part of this music encapsulates the scenario perfectly: After the sharptooth battle, Littlefoot is separated from his mother, and searches for her, believing that she will be able to protect him, like always. He is completely oblivious of just how much Sharptooth did to her.

The Land Before Time wasn't afraid of being harsh for child viewers. The loss of a loved one- your guardian, being on your own, braving the dangers of the world, uncertain if you will reach salvation. The first time I heard James Horner's music was this film, 48 Hours, and Commando. I was surprised to find he did the soundtrack for Avatar. Thank you, James.

This music is the sonic embodiment of grief. If you’re here to face that feeling you’ve been running away from that the movie gave you, let me share something with you: 1. That movie was a lot for ANYONE let alone a child. When we saw it as kids, our brains experienced something very similar to real loss. I know that there’s beauty in the movie and the music but tragedy doesn’t have to be something to be exposed to that early on to help with our development. For a lot of people, this actually caused separation anxiety and much more. 2. It is okay to Love without the fear of loss. Live in the present and cherish every moment without doing so because of the fear of what the future may bring. Bless all of you in whatever way those words hold meaning to you. 3. I needed to hear this. I remember seeing this movie and I feared losing my mom and dad so much, I would cry every time they dropped me off at daycare. Now I'm grieving the loss of my cat of 12 years and this soundtrack hurts all over again. Animated films before my childhood were so raw when it comes to death, whether it's dealing with grief like Littlefoot and Bambi or portraying death as beautiful and a part of life like Watership Down. It's art. And films like these live on in our memories because of the impacts they made. ❤

I love this score!! Sad in the beginning -- I was almost tearing up, too, but I kept thinking "he's just got to get to his grandparents!" The comic relief helped some too (the young flyers fighting over the berries, Ducky's cute way of introducing himself and trying to cheer Littlefoot up). Still pretty here though!

I've been reading through the comments section here and I completely understand what everyone feels. I lost my grandma last night 24 hours ago and I feel so much emotional agony, extreme loneliness, sadness, fear, denial, anger, counterfactual thoughts and yet fond childhood memories and all the moments we got to enjoy and cherish together. When she and grandpa used to take care of me when I was a kid, I loved dinosaurs and this movie was at the forefront of it all. The music makes me cry every time I hear it and I'm 22 it captures so many strong emotions I can't help it. You're never too old to cry and you're never to old to reminisce childhood memories. It felt so long ago and yet it didn't seem that long ago. Thanks for sharing your stories, everyone. I find comfort in knowing I'm not alone in my loss. I'll continue to be strong and fight until I draw my last breath just like my grandma. Love you, grandma forever and always ❤

This song, this one freaking song, is what brought me here, 16 years after seeing the film as a tiny lil thing. I was just enjoying a beer when this tune began playing in my head, it's so beautiful. Solemn at points, but also hopeful and uplifting at points.

I used to watch all those movies as a kid. Not much has remained, except for the music. When you are a kid, only the movie matters, so when after 10 years the music has remained, that means how powerful the music is

This song is so sad, it's basically my childhood. However I'm not saddened by the film itself, I used to watch The Land Before Time all the time when I was a kid. When I watch this film it makes me think of my mother and how she would always be over my shoulder while I was sitting on the floor watching the film. I remember I had the game on PlayStation 1, and I couldn't jump over the river, my mum Sat down and helped me play it... We never got over the river, we were both terrible, but she helped me anyway. I have subconsciously connected my memories of my mum when I was a kid with this song :'(

James Horner was my favorite composer with this, Field of Dreams, and A Beautiful Mind being some of my favorites. I'm no classical connoisseur by any means but I always thought of him as a modern Prokofiev. One of my earlier memories discovering my love of music was attending a "Peter and the Wolf" puppet show at school and being totally mesmerized by what I was hearing, like music suddenly just made sense to me in that moment. I hear that same power in everything James Horner did with similar elements being used. He had such a knack for dynamics and making you feel one thing and then another with such fluidity. Such a talented man.

Close your eyes, listen, think back to those lovely times. Not necessarily this movie but those times. It’s almost like time traveling, just remember around this time. The memories you had with your family or certain people. The easier times. When we were young. Careless. A future full ahead of us. Thinking about that shaves so much weight off my shoulders now as an adult. Just think about the better days, we’re all kind of just kids, just grown and lost sometimes. That scene always makes me cry. I watched that scene of rooter after I lost my dad to cancer at age 14 in 2009. It taught me on how to deal with death and what it’s like to lose a loved one. It taught me that my dad will always be with me No matter where I go and it showed me that my dad would of wanted me to keep going In life. It may seem silly to some people but anyone that is grieving please watch the scene and you will be surprised.

I think it was the moment Littlefoots mom passed away, that scene always brought me tears, no matter what age 7, 12, 18, 21, 25 etc..

Unforgettable. He will be forever remembered, and forever missed. By all of us. :( This has always been my favourite piece by him-- I have so many memories of listening to the first few minutes repeatedly before falling asleep, of growing up watching the film. What a completely beautiful legacy to leave behind on the earth. We couldn't thank you enough, James Horner.
