Excellent James As a long time recorder player I can appreciate the amazing amount of work, talent and passion that went into this. You're choice of the bass and Contra Bass sonority really holds up the harmonies that Bach is so intent on in his compositions, this one being no exception Of course it is indeed the breath and breath control that makes the recoder one of the more difficult woodwinds to play as it is very easy to " sour" the notes without it. Thank you so much! I use a condenser mic (Røde NT 2000) and mic fairly close, about a foot from the labium (or less) I record in a dry environment and add a touch of reverb in "post-production".

@@billr.2210 well, fingerings are almost the same for all recorders, but the correspondant pitches are not. For example, closing all the holes in a soprano recorder gives you a c5, while in an alto you get an f4

Are you actually playing this in F major though? I tried playing along, and it seems to be in F rather than in E. Trying to master E major on the recorder, and can't find anybody playing ANYTHING in E major out there on the recorder.

Yes this is played in F Major. E Major isn't the most recorder friendly key as it really only involves one full octave on the alto. Hope you can find something on KZbin. I don't think I have done any pieces in E Major.

@@JamesHowardYoung I don't even practice any notes beyond the high A with any scale. I want to get good with all of them, to be able to play along to anything. The E scale is commonly used by guitar players, so it feels obligatory to me, haha! But the B and the Bb are the worst, in my opinion, because I can't even get a single full scale in either direction with those!

Most music is digitally improved these days. Bottom line: It's fantastic and beautiful. It's music Bach would love to have heard but never did. Its perfection of harmony is certainly hard to get without digital correction and I totally love the result. We get to hear beautiful harmonic chords like no equally-tempered piano can ever make. This musician has posted videos detailing how he makes these videos, hiding nothing. Intelligent humanity, which is part of nature, has learned to combine art with engineering skills to get beautiful results. This is how we get to enjoy every well-cooked meal we eat, and each stirring movie that we watch. This music a finest example of artistic skill combined with engineering skill. Now enjoy it.

Unfortunately, this music is soulless. Why would an oboist torture himself for decades by playing the oboe, or even a historical instrument within the context of historically informed music? After all, simple, mathematically perfect sine waves from a tone generator are enough to guarantee completely accurate harmony.@@jacks5kids
