James always said Oliveira vs Islam was a 50/50 fight. He favored Charles, for some solid reasons, but always said Islam could win the fight. I’m a huge Dagestan gang guy, and I picked Islam over Oliveira, but I never imagine he would dominate the way he did. And you know who also didn’t expect that? Javier Mendez who expected a close 5R fight.

I agree with you James that on paper Umar seems to lack experience just like Abus and Ikram did. But the only thing that gives me pause in that analysis is that Umar has literally grown up facing Khabib, Islam, and Usman. And with Cain and Javier training him, I think he has a serious edge that Abus and Ikram didn’t. I suspect he’s more prepared for a Cory-tier fight than a lot of people realize.

Umar is going to win, since we always see chain wrestlers get the better of pure strikers. Abus and Ikram don’t train on team Khabib and in hindsight proved to have no fight IQ. Where Umar we’ve seen enough of him knowing he isn’t going to try to strike with Cory. Yes we don’t have hard proof of umar vs high level competition but we didn’t with Islam until he fought Charles. All we had were the Javier Mendes hype stories, which I think at this point we should believe. The only concern is that Umar’s shoulder isn’t going to be 100%.
