There's no one else doing this work that I enjoy more than this kind gentleman, his voice, manner, clarity, and just an almost forgotten classy way of being is a pleasure to see and hear, and learn! I live in Germany, how could I get the DVD he mentions with all these alterations? PLEASE, anyone, I would do anything to get it! Thank you Sir for your generosity, doing this as a hobby has kept me away from the shrink for some years, you replaced him in the most effective, and fun, way possible. Many greetings from Leipzig, Germany, and my admiration for you as a person, and for the artist you are.

Thank you! I am working on an old favorite blazer. Taking out the shoulder pads. This helps sooo much.
@bohemiansusan28974 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed watching this immensely. I have several blazers to alter either due to weight loss or they were men's blazers to begin with and I buy them for the longer sleeves and more suited to my androgynous body. When I see up a blazer or jacket from a pattern, I already know how to alter the pattern to get what suits me. Thank you.

Thank you so very much. Sir, this was so good, and so non-stressing that I'm going to watch all 3 parts again! This is one alteration I've needed to have done for my cloths --- all my life. Now is my time to learn how to do it for myself. Most times the shoulder seams are almost 2" to long. Oh no... That's a lot of easing back in? Right, I'm going to watch you do it all again!
@momwinters12652 жыл бұрын
Momzilla, with a little practice on scrapes you will be easing in fabric without thinking about it real quick.

It is a great video. Thank you very much Gentleman Jim .. what is the maximum inch we can take in shoulder ?
@ebonelove2 жыл бұрын
Personally I wouldn’t go beyond 1-1.5”. The more you take from the shoulder in the more you’re adjusting the armhole. If you’re not careful you can throw off the fit- it’s important to try it on regularly throughout the process! The more you do it the easier it is to gauge how far you can take it 🙂

Gentleman Jim, you are fantastic. Thank you so very very much for sharing as my local uniform shop for my daughters school has no idea how to make blazers that will fit correctly. I’ve never bought a blazer there with all 3 of my daughters that fits correctly. It’s always the same old thing with the shoulders and sleeve length. I’m now going to attempt to fix this myself. May I ask please if you have any news on your dvd please? I really would be interested in owning a copy. Thanks again gentleman Jim. You are a superstar tailor. 👍🏼😀

Thanks for the demonstration. I long ago took to wearing ascots, various styles of scarves and cravats long ago tool. Can a regular straight pair of pants, say cords, be converted to breeches for tall riding boots and/or a high waist be added to pants?
@ebonelove2 жыл бұрын
Yes to the breeches and *sort of* to the high waist. You can shorten, create a tiny gather, and add a small cuff (not unlike the cuffs of a dress shirt) for a classy look. That’s relatively easy to do. As for the high waist you can’t lengthen what isn’t there but you can create a new piece if you have enough excess material to do so. Rounded, pointed (triangular in the center), or straight across depending on preference. Separate the waist, insert the extension, reattach. Depending on the pockets you may have trouble moving them but I will say that adding too much to create a high waist will look very awkward. It’s tricky and risky to cut up pants so you have to really access what you have to work with and what design you’re going for 🙂

@@ebonelove Thanks for the reply. Pure luck that I saw it. I used to get KZbin emails for new uploads from my subs and people replying to my comments. Now it's all under that bell icon and a pain to go through all that's accumulated there. I think I get the idea as to what you're talking about. I'll probably experiment with some worn out pants to get an idea for what's possible before committing to anything nice. Any flare above the knee is, I'm assuming, going to be limited to how wide the pant legs are to begin with. Do you have any idea of where traditional (flared) riding breeches are supposed to end? Mid calf or the bottom of the calf? Jodhpurs, on the other hand, both modern and traditional, end around the ankle and typically have a stirrup. There's also a type, "Kentucky jodhpurs", that have a flare at the bottom of the leg that goes over the low boot.

Was I right to think I never saw you cut any material off the sleeve except a bit of the lining, I kept rewinding and fast forwarding to see if I missed anything.

you need to buy the DVD to see all the procedures.

He also cut away he exess of the sleeve before reattatching the shoulder pad, but maybe that was in the previous part.
