The craziest thing is everyone else featured on the Drumeo channel listens to the song all the way through at least once, making a timing sheet or some structure notes. Chad just jumped in after MAYBE 30 seconds and NALED IT as if he were the one that wrote the drum part for this song. It was insane. Take note of his hesitation at the 4:37 mark, just to make sure that he is keeping the correct time. Same as the aborted cymbal crash at 6:23, and his realization that it was supposed to slow down instead of speed up at 7:30. The fact that he is using the tonal shifts of the vocals and guitar track to hit the transitions is totally freaking nuts. Chad has been playing the drums for the better part of 50 years. He started when he was 11. He's studied music theory. He does improve drumming jam sessions regularly. He is just that damned good. Don't apologize for looking stunned. We all felt that way our first time seeing this too. Great reaction! Earned my Sub.

He only heard it for the amount of time they played it in the video before he started drumming. Chad (aka Will Ferrell's twin brother 😂) is able to do this because he's one of the best drummers in the world, full stop, and does jamming out and improv sessions with Flea all the time. Doing improv on a first time listen isn't all that difficult for fairly skilled drummers, but it's the technical level of what he's doing here and his active listening letting him know when the song is changing that's so impressive about this.

I'm not a drummer and no disrespect to the original drummer but Chad just absolutely killed that! not sure it can be played better honestly.

Once you hear Chad smith play this.. you can’t unhear his drums… I would give anything if they did a track with Chad smith .. 30 Seconds to mars drummer is good..but my god Chad smith just took it to a whole other level… sheesh..

This was nuts, he was spot on for most of if. Chad is just that good. Chad and Will actually did a skit on The Tonight Show I think it was that one. Check it out. It was pretty good. It's wierd how similar they look.

Sorry I just love this shit!!! You are talking about “how do they do this “ he doesn’t know the song”! I’m a drummer so I kind of understand, but I’m not his level. You should find him talking about playing in front ofNeil Peart for a Buddy Rich tribute album. It’s awesome!!!

Chad isnt the original drummer but hes rhe drummer for the red hot chili peppers. Chad is also a listening type of drummer since many times he adjusts himself because of his bandmate flea. You can also see a few times he kind of hesitated especially with the roll.
