I was studying criminology here in australia. I would realy like to see more of your videos and go through the whole course. I am a disabled person and have all of my faculties, so I just do courses in subjects that interest me, criminology has always interested me because it is evolving, and differs from country to country. I would like to get some form of certificate or something to reflect my studies in this area, but have this disability and cannot attend lectures etc, so I would like to do something by correspondence, but it has to be very cheap or free. Can you help me? I would love to have you as a lecturer because you don't hold back when questioning something.
@gullwingstorm8579 жыл бұрын
Bear in mind that Justice courses (cert IV and onwards) in Australia will not be the same. The Law School in Melbourne recommends Open University for pre-law courses, and they are online only. Easy access for disability.

I am also interested in studying criminology. I am unfortunately also disabled and this limits my ability to ever turn law, criminology etc into a career. @ivklana2 жыл бұрын
@@DatCrazyNerf I don't know if this is too late, but I thought I'd give it a short anyway! I graduated high-school this year and I applied to an online university (because it's not possible for me to travel to any physical university, unfortunately) called Arden University, and you can study Criminology and Psychology, Criminology alone, Criminology and Law, etc. there. I think it's as cheap as it gets (and before I state the tuition fees I have to mention, but I'm not entirely sure, I think there are either discounts or no tuitions at all for people with disabilities because they do ask you if you do have any when you apply online), around 5.5K$ per year for three of four years, rounding up to 16K$ in total. It's not exactly free, but it assures you a diploma in the field. I think it's fit for disabled people considering the courses are online and you don't have to travel. I'm really looking forward to hear from you if you're still active on here, and I hope you do after all continue in this field!

I have only just discovered Criminology (I have studies some basic sociology before tho), could you suggest some books or videos that might be a good place to start? @JamesCookUMA Жыл бұрын
Hi, Reina. Well, yes. As I point out in the next breath in that video, there are reasons to "raise your eyebrows" at that idea. However we might think of this morally, however, it is *descriptively accurate* to say of criminology as an enterprise that it has been strongly tied to a practical project of changing our social world.

@JamesCookUMA8 жыл бұрын
+William Donovan The answers are as diverse as what you would like to DO with a degree in criminology. Would you like to be an activist? Then no formal education is required; rather it is simply enough to study the subject through reading, lecture if you feel it is necessary, and some practice in application. Would you like you be a social worker or non-profit worker acting as an advocate in various aspects of the criminal institutional system? Then a B.A. with some coursework in criminology (or a major or minor in criminology if your institution offers one) is a good idea. Would you like to study crime as a sociologist for a living? Then a PhD is called for, and you should look at graduate schools when (if) you are ready.
