My film school class had the choice of any film to watch at our graduation party. We had students bring The Godfather, The Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane. Someone else brought Flash Gordon. Ever wonder what Jodoworsky's Dune would have been like? Flash Gordon with a much higher budget, sense of perfectionism, incredible names in the cast, and Salvador Dali never speaking a line in the final product, in order to exploit the hell out of his contract.
@johnellizz4 жыл бұрын
The Mandela Effect should make Jodo's "Dune" real. It should also make a sequel to Flash Gordon set on Mars. That was going to happen but the budget got transferred to the 1984 "Dune". This way the Mandela Effect eliminates the existence of the 1984 Dune, transfers it's budget to the Flash sequel and makes that real, and also gives us a 70's Dune movie.

True story, I managed to rent Flesh Gordon when I was 12 years old. I didn't even know it was a parody of something. I still haven't seen Flash Gordon.

As a kid living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1981 with my parents and sisters, VCR's weren't very common yet, but we could rent 16 mm movies and film projectors, so for my birthday, my dad rented a projector and the 'Flash Gordon' movie which was the closest thing o 'Star Wars' that I could get. My sisters, friends, and I really enjoyed it along with the cool Queen/Howard Blake score and that thump-thumping main title in particular. :)

It’s my favorite movie. It’s just so lighthearted and enjoyable. You guys miss the main point though. The screen writer for Flash is the same writer for the Adam West Batman show. Love for this movie rests completely on if you love the old show.

The thing I find most amazing is that James keeps that chewing gum machine full of gumballs and he hadn't eaten them yet. Are they props? Like, are they just plastic balls? I would take me 3, maybe 4 reviews to eat the whole lot. I love gumballs.

Oh my God! My friends and I had a running gag when we played in the Virtual World Battletech Pods where any time someone asked what planet we were from if we said Earth the person in question became confused and often replied to the effect of, "You're from Planet Dirt? I've never heard of Planet Dirt." XD

Guy's, this movie was released in December, 1980. The Empire Strikes back was released in May, 1980. Also, I saw this in the theaters. Even back then we thought it looked cheesy as hell, but in a good way.

I love you James. Ive been watching your videos for over 10 years, I actually grew up with your videos and theyre the reason I feel like Im into all the cool stuff im into now. I know I cant be the only one, I always rewatch your original Monster Madness on Halloween to get in the spirit. I just wanna communicate to you anyway I can that I think the fans want this channel to be just you and Mike. The other guys are okay but every cinemassacre fan i know would much prefer just a video of just you talking about Flash Gordon. The way you would talk about movies was very calming and informative, almost like Bob Ross. The review you just did of The Thing was a perfect example and return to form, it reminded me of the old video where you talked about Alien Invasion movies and their remakes. Just stuff like that was the reason I think people fell in love with your channel

What makes Flash special is its heart that accurately reflects the breathless quality of the original Alex Raymond strips. The art and costume design are widely praised but of equal importance are the performances, script and direction all being on the same page. The genius stroke was to hire the criminally undervalued Mike Hodges to do something completely out of his comfort zone and boy did it ever work. The elements were so disparate that the movie shouldn’t have worked but it does gloriously. It seems to be better respected as a truly good film in Europe whereas here in the US people know r for the theme, jokiness or the Ted references. I’m very glad the 4k restoration was announced as the film has needed help for years. The current Blu-ray is full of noise reduction and has a lifeless remixed audio track. I have to watch the letterboxed Laserdisc to see and hear the film properly.

Star Wars was saved in the editing room. Had they not worked to reorder and delete several scenes we may not be talking about it today with such admiration! Things like the Deth Star having 5 min till it blows up the base was a total after thought added in post. Imagine during the epic trench run, no stakes really. Totally was saved!
