This is one of the top 3 synthwave/retrowave songs I scared of listen to, because I'm afraid of the feelings prevail over me (other two are "FM-84 - Goodbye" and "Synthetic" by The Midnight also). But when I start to play I can't stop anymore. This song makes me feel nostalgic about my childhood and teenage years when I was too shy to do steps in my life in different topics such as love life, career (surely regarding studying), taking care of friendships, places where I can't go back anymore and things what I can't do anymore as an adult. What makes it bitter sweet is that I have a GREAT life now. There is nothing I can complain about. I have a great wife, super job and career, really good friends but sometimes I feel I have another life what never happened to me, what I stopped in the middle (or even before it really started). Sometimes I wish I could go back to the places of my childhood as a "ghost" just to see how the things going on without meeting with anybody. Just because I do not wanna talk to anybody, asking about how the things going on, which is cool, but I only want to take a deep dive into my feelings all alone. I guess it sounds super weird and makes not too much sense without background information, I just wanted to let out my feeling on this "platform" like I never did before. :) I guess you know what I mean since you are in the same situation(s) if I understood your words well. Stay strong man! Life changes and it hurts sometimes, but it makes your soul rich. Great videos anyways, you deserve much more attention!

wow Milan, thank you so much for sharing that insightful story. I can kinda understand what you mean. The Lyrics for any newcomers.... I just feel like, I've been stuck here my whole life There must be something else out there, waiting, you know? Just for us We could run away Just leave, never look back I don't even care where we go Just far away from here I'll come with you (one, two) One, two, three, four Faked our deaths Lit a match Closed the door Waited for the flash Greyhound Station, we paid in cash Miss Lazarus, we're coming back They say it's darkest before the dawn We've been in this town for far too long They say it's darkest before the dawn We're moving on, we're moving on, we're moving on Sunset, no regrets First chance, last dance Stuck in the middle Even bad girls know good love You taste so sweet it hurts a little Make our home, where we stand One suitcase and half a plan Follow the wolves and sing along Past the voices to the song They say it's darkest before the dawn We've been in this town for far too long They say it's darkest before the dawn We're moving on, we're moving on, we're moving on Sunsets, no regrets First chance, last dance Stuck in the middle Even bad girls know good love You taste so sweet it hurts a little Sunsets, no regrets First chance, last dance Stuck in the middle Even bad girls know good love You taste so sweet it hurts a little Sunsets, no regrets First chance, last dance Stuck in the middle Even bad girls know good love You taste so sweet it hurts a little

Another Midnight banger that riggers goosebumps right when it starts. Tastes so sweet it hurts a little...makes me think of how too much of anything, regardless of how good, can be too much. Moderation in all aspects of life. I feel you on the finding a place or a reason to put down roots. I'm scared to do that because it feels so definite...as if I'm stuck. Instead of enjoying the comfort in having roots, I get scared that I can't pick up and run when I want. Sorry for the ramble. Long story short, I feel you. ;)

Again man I got to say thank you for reacting to this genre. I really wish more people were introduced to this. I hear this song and It's like I am in a Stranger Things Episode. I flash back to my days playing DnD with friends. No cell phones, no parents holding an actual leash on their kid, people cruising down the highway instead of raging, and hanging out with friends on the weekends watching movies that have long been locked up by the PC police. This song could have been on the sound track to any number of 80's movies. I could see this in Risky Business, Vision Quest, or The Sure Thing. Now to answer your taste so sweet question. When I think of taste so sweet it hurts. I think of how sometimes you can eat or drink something that is extremely sweet and it makes your teeth hurt or gives you a little sting in the back of your throat but you keep at it because its soo good. So in the song I acquaint it to the companionship and the life the singer is living with their partner is so good its probably a bit toxic. To much of a good thing so to speak, so much so that their is even a small tinge of pain sometimes as a warning that their in way to deep. Even bad girls no good love, it taste so sweet it hurts a little. Then again I am as full of crap as anyone :)

Sunset was the song that got me into The Midnight and synthwave in general. I remember the day clearly; I had just started working from home, it was early in the pandemic during 2020, and my boss who is only 14 years older than me chatted me up and sent me the song saying how it's so 80s for something made in 2016. From there, we both fell down the synthwave rabbit hole. Not only because the genre was good but also because, as kids who grew up exposed to 80s culture thanks to movies (he actually lived both 80s and 90s tho), it brought us back to a simpler, more colorful, and more hopeful decade that I never experienced but would jump at the chance to live in (or go back to in his case). It was our comfort when we were about to go crazy during quarantine, really. We kept ourselves sane by talking about what our 80s selves and lives would've been like if we really were kids/teenagers who were friends during that period. If I had to pick, I would say that's what "it tastes so sweet, it hurts a little" means for me.😊

I have heard this song like 2-3-4 years ago. I know I am late here. But i will just go what does "You taste so sweet it hurts a little" mean to me. To me, it is that you got attached to a person or a bond or any living creature(Eh: Dog,etc.) that you depend your happiness on it and if you left them alone for some time it will hurt you or make ya feel lonely and when they are gone (dies or went other way, country or after a fight or something) it shatters your soul. The meaning is like that to me. In conclusion, it feels like it means that you have to get hurt to lose something that you are attached with or that gives ya happiness. I am feeling this is one of the many explainations about this line because I don't want this to be the only explanation here for this line. I wanna make it really valuable and deep.

Collateral was the song that introduced me to The Midnight. Sunset was the song that immersed me in The Midnight! I couldn’t wait to get home later that day to buy their entire back catalogue. For me, this is their Signature track.
