The ost is amazing. Everything else though... absolutely would not touch. This was my first tsukihime thing. hell my first nasuverse thing back in high school. And I have zero nostalgia for it like I do Deen stay night. They are on different planets quality wise. There is no tsukihime anime meme is absolutely deserved. Now the MANGA on the other hand... absolutely peak 10 out of 10

The manga is 11/10 rare adaptation that can stand with the source material and even surpass it at some points. I’m surprised so many people liked the ost but it comes down to taste.

Aight Imma very heated about this show. Not beating the bush, I don't hate it. Yes its story is butchered, has poor pacing, some of the battles are just very dumbed down (look at you Nero, his VA is also miscasted), many plot points are totally inferiors to VN and the manga, the biggest plot twist about the Tohno maids were nonchalantly shown in the anime flashback... animation itself is generic aside from some few good sakuga scenes. BUT I have guilty pleasure with this show and find there are charms of it: -The OST and OP, ED by Toshiyuki Omori. While nowhere near iconic as the VN music, they are bangers in its own way and has the fitting vibe of urban gothic. -The voice cast, while not very good, served as the foundation for many VAs's future roles in later TypeMoon media, for example Kohaku's VA later known for Rin Tohsaka. -Promo illustrations are great. Ciel artwork on the OST cover is one of her best arts in all of Type Moon. So yeah, that's why I hate the "no anime" joke amongs the fandom. I get why they hate the show, just don't like that unfunny joke.

Cartoons character designs were fantastic! It is way better than new ufotable ones, in my opinion. Especially promo illustrations and artworks, as you already mentioned. Ufotable ones feel like it is a completely new thing. I mean, why you change Arc's iconic royal purple long skirt? Or why all characters are extra skinny? Also I don't like nothing but big breast girl design.

I didn’t express this in the video but I also hate the joke too. The promo art is pretty good and while the music isn’t my taste I understand why people like it. The anime is a good reminder why the vn is loved and the dangers of a shotty adaptation.

But I downloaded a translated PS2 version with the PC hen parts added to it 🤣 but I never played that one yet. 8 downloaded it back in 2016 or something. If someone offered me 1 million to tell them what happened in the old PC one; I wouldn't get that million dude. It been so long mate.

I watched a minute of this anime, got bored and never looked back. I’m glad I did because I might’ve ended up hating it like I do KnK and Tsukihime is my favourite of Nasu’s four main works. I haven’t watched it since but at least the Op is a banger which seems to be a trend amongst 2000s VN adaptations. Both the first Higurashi Op and the first Deen Stay Night OP fit the atmosphere of their source materials perfectly.

when you say tsukihime is one of the best visual novels, I don't necessarily disagree it's very good, but are you qualified to make that judgement? have you played a lot of visual novels? I'm not out to discredit you or anything, it's just the person with a channel almost exclusively about fighting games and melty blood I feel like might have a bit of a biased opinion on the matter. 😅everyone's opinion is valid, i'm just genuinely curious about your VN resume.

Oh I’m 1,000,000 % biased. I haven’t finished many but I have tried a fair few and have a huge backlog. Thus far I’ve read Yume Miru Kusuri, YOU AND ME AND HER, Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, Plus disc, fate/stay night, mahoyo and I’m currently reading the Tsukihime remake. I could also throw in danganronpa 1,2 and v3 (all on vita) and the ace attorney series up to Apollo justice but those two series are more like pc adventure games than visual novels but those two definitely opened me to the idea of visual novels. YOU AND ME AND HER and Tsukihime (especially) made me fall in love with the genre. I’m not an expert and definitely a new school visual novel enthusiast. If you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them. You’re probably also wondering why I think Tsukihime is one of the best. Well to put things simply and not wright six pages. Tsukihime Is a very basic visual novel in terms of presentation, but it uses everything it has masterfully. Despite not having a huge budget, it creates this amazing tone and atmosphere that just pulls you in add onto that the great writing , engaging story and world building and you’ve got something special. Now I’m not gonna sit here and say that it’s 100% perfect there are a lot of That I feel are outdated and products of their time, but I don’t think that brings it down enough in my eyes to not make it one of the best. It’s left such a profound impression on me that even if I find something that’s written better I don’t think it would ever be able to top the original Tsukihime in my eyes. Fun fact Tsukihime is the reason l like melty, I originally played it before I read the visual novel didn’t think much of it but afterwards it’s become my second favorite fighting game series.

How much of a contrarian do you have to be to dunk on the soundrack when it's the thing the anime does well in general? As for some other points like Roa being mostly SHIKI, well of course he's SHIKI, it's a merged route same as the manga. Some scenes like kid Nanaya's flashback (the remake also adds a bigger role to his mother) and Satsuki's offscreen confession/rejection (would've been cool in the remake too if Satsuki had any appearances past the first couple of days) are also great The problem with pacing comes from establishing Shiki's school life and giving a ton of unnecessary screentime to Arihiko and Satsuki while Ciel and Akiha would need it more. The anime doesn't understand Tsukihime, true, but without watching it one can't appreciate the original better, so the "there's no Tsukihime anime" meme needs to die.

The meme definitely needs to die. I forgot to mention this but Ciel still has a severe underdevelopment problem which is worse because her route obviously can’t be covered in the anime. In one of the last episodes they front loaded a lot of lore like her immortality which didn’t need to be there tbh. Some additions are nice but the manga handled it better especially integrating SHIKI into the Arc route. As for the soundtrack It simply didn’t stand out to me but music is super subjective.

Has this guy been cyber stalking my anilist? I literally just finished up watching the Tsukihime anime for the first time today and I find out this gets uploaded. I will say though out of all the negatives this anime has the most damning one for me is how I fucking fell asleep through episodes 4 and 5 and had to rewatch them. Never in my life has an adaptation of something been so boring and terrible that it actually put me to sleep, that... That is a first for me but thank god I’m done because now I never EVER have to touch this piece of garbage again.

As someone with no investment in the VN I found this Anime very enjoyable and frequently recommend it to people ever October. Your statement that it's "too generic for the general Anime audience" I find revealing, because it's completely different form modern generic Anime in the same way every early 00s Anime is, yet also clearly stands out even among other 2003 Anime if for no other reason then how it's the first of it's Sub Genre. I think it's definitely deliberately unfair to rag on the Music so much and not acknowledge the Banger OP.

@@NoneyoBizwiz as a boomer who lived and was pretty conscious around 2003, it absolutely had bad animation for its time. If you compare it to many anime that came out either around or prior to the time period. One thing is that good and bad animation isnt exactly determined by time period. Snow white still has some of the most fluid and detailed animation out there and it's from 1930s. It's all budget and resources and talent.

The current tsukihime reflects the modern nasu and the old tsukihime reflected the older nasu. They are both valid takes. But the anime does not reflect any nasu. They tried to make it some artsy tragic ultra serious gothic show about vampire mystery but sucked out all the actual humanity and depth of the characters that made them who they are. When even arcueid barely emotes you know there is a problem

The best way I can describe it is like this: Tsukihime is a story with vampires in it but Lunar Legend is a vampire story. I have played the remake and the atmosphere is definitely still there (I got to the title screen and felt like I got shot by a magnum of atmosphere). The only new design I don’t like is DA Noel it’s a little too extravagant for the normalcy of Tsukihime. Fate can get away with stuff like that because it’s more fantastical.

You says that the show is very surface level about the game, but can't the Arcueid route also be considered as surface level for the wholestory of the game? After all, it's the first segment of the game who we are allowed to go thought the first time we play the game and not everything is revealed in this route to make us want to do the rest of the game. We can also says the same thing about the first Fate/Stay Night show who has just adapted Saber route but also incorpored some elements from the two others routes to fill the show and because they didn't expected to be more than one show. And that can apply for Tsukihime show, regardless they can't did everything to please hardcore fans. So we should be grateful for the existence of this show, even after all the constraints the artist of the show has had to deal with instead of just brushing it off just because it's not what fans wanted.
