That tune rolls along nicely James. Everyone tight and together. So enjoyable, thanks James

Another wonderful recording, fine, very fine. Thank you, James. Tuna Skinny never fails to delight. Many bands come close to their excellence but tuba skinny remains a nonpareil.

Grazie James....wow! Bravi Tuba Skinny! E bravo Greg! P.S. Let the four winds blow cantata da Greg è TANTA ROBA!...good pleasure! Danilo da Roma (Italia)

Better every time I hear (and see) them! Each one is a master at their craft! How does a Band get better, when they're already the best? I don't know but they sure do seem to pull off! Non

Great thanks for another awesome video from this magical concert. Yes now it is Greg time. This tune is new in their repertoire. The melody is very similar to "Make me a Pallet on your floor." Erika singing it with Tuba Skinny a couple of years before. I hope you have still more in your vault. Lovely Regards Dave from Berlin Germany 👋

Yes, there are more in the vault. And if the supply gets low I'll make another drive to New Orleans.🎷🎺🪕🎶

Many thanks, James. Yes, this is a 16-bar a-a-b-a song recorded by Washboard Sam in 1940. Its simple structure and melody are very similar to those of 'Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor'. Challenges for anyone who likes such things:- Question 1. Which Chorus features the cornet as soloist? Is it Chorus 6, Chorus 7, Chorus 8, Chorus 9 or Chorus 10? Question 2. In which key does the band play this tune?
@PopsCoffee Жыл бұрын
@Dave Thanks for participating, Dave. Q. 1 correct. Q. 2 still available. I think it starts on the chord of F, but that is not the key.

Here's one to mull over while enjoying your next coffee. It's just an observation rather than a challenge. If you listen to Peggy Lee's version of the Piron/Bocage tune ''Mama's Gone Goodbye''from 1924 what tune comes to mind?
@PopsCoffee Жыл бұрын
@@brendamello2202 Just listened to the Peggy Lee for the first time in my life. I note she omits the Verse (which is a pity, as it's more interesting than most verses). Also she sings the song in C, whereas the jazz bands usually play it in F - quite a difference. You'll have to tell me which other song comes to your mind. The only one I can immediately think of that also begins on the third note of the scale and the tonic chord, followed by the melody note being the flattened third of the scale supported by the flattened sixth chord is 'San'. But there's not a great deal in common between the two tunes as a whole. Thanks for provoking thoughts, brenda mello. Now to finish my coffee.
