I bought this and it rides perfect. I had to choose between a Scott Genius vs this and I picked this one. All carbon frame. The Scott Genius lower triangle is mad with alloy. I wanted to upgrade to all carbon for the first time. Thanks for the review.

Good stuff here. Originally tried to order a 2021 Carbon Comp back in Dec 2020. I was told I would likely not get one until the 2022 model year, but the Expert looked to be more promising for 2021 order fulfillment. Fast forward to April 2021, still no sign of a ship date. My buddy's dealer happened to have a SJ Alloy Comp in my size, so I snagged it to ride a few months until my original backorder was filled. Finally received my Expert as a 22 model and a lovely $1100 price increase over the 21 model. All this to say, I've ridden both the FSR and non FSR stumpy. The non FSR is great and has very similar feel if you set aside the much better shock on the Expert. These carbon Stumpys are great bikes!

My research shows that the rims are not Roval like you said but rather Specialized house brand on the Stumpjumper Comp carbon. You have to get a higher level build to get Roval aluminum Traverse wheels and only the top builds have Carbon wheels. If they were Roval there would be a logo. I skipped buying a 2021 Evo because it had the same wheels and I thought they were too chunky. I do love the all Shimano build though.

Do you think pedaling is a night and day difference from the 2019/2020 sj? How does it pedal vs the current sj evo? Trying to figure out which is the better all around- decent to pedal and husky enough for the occasional day at the bike park (not crazy jumps and drops).
@Jamesthebikeguy3 жыл бұрын
The pedaling performances significantly better than the previous gen. I personally don't have any significant trail time riding the Evo variant, but I would imagine it also is a bit less efficient considering it's using the older platform as well as much less anti-squat built into the suspension

I went with the alloy version to get the fsr I didn’t like the way the (flex stay) felt on the trail.
@mudkayak63052 жыл бұрын
What was it about the flex feel?
@Hardworkpays2092 жыл бұрын
@@mudkayak6305 the flex stay felt very stiff through the travel compared to the Horst link alloy version.. the carbon stumpy is aimed for guys that like riding Xc trails that want a more forgiving ride or guys that want a very stiff and responsive trail bike. The alloy version is more gravity oriented in my opinion and the suspension feens more plush and better small bump sensitivity.

Its a nice bike but man oh man is it not great value for money. I was a diehard Specialized guy for years but you can get so much more bike for $5000 from Marin, canyon, YT, etc. When I snapped my frame on my old stumpy last month I was in the market for an EVO Elite Alloy but I ended up going with a Marin Alpine XR. I test rode this very same bike and I liked it a lot. However, I though it was a little bit heavy compared to the Transition Spur or Rocky Mountain Element which are similar bikes with similar geo at similar price points. Another similar bike, my sons $3300 aluminum Ibis Ripley AF only weighs 32 pounds. I was hoping the Stumpjumper would be a little lighter in the ~$5000 price range. Ohterwise, a very good bike.
@Jamesthebikeguy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, typically carbon won't do all that much for weight reduction. Maybe in the half pound to pound range over an equivalent aluminum bike. But certainly at some point there begins to be a diminishing return and a Ripley AF is a pretty decent bike already, so it's not surprising. It's only 2 lb lighter
@aaronbehindbars3 жыл бұрын
Spend another G and get Performance Elite suspension, X01 shifty bits, better brakes, and lighter wheels. My 2022 Carbon Expert in S5 frame size setup tubeless is 28 lbs. I consider that to be very respectable for a 140/130mm trail bike. Forget about what the bike costs vs weight. Prices are all screwed up. This bike used to be $4000 back in 2021. The expert was originally $4800. Everything is stupid expensive.

I gave this video a thumbs down because I feel like it's not really a bike "review". I would call this video a "spec overview" rather than a bike review. Not trying to be negative, because it is a good overview of the specs. But I can read about the specs on the Specialized website. There's very little talk about how it feels on the trail, and under different conditions. That's what I look for in a review.
