Bay Park Forward. Busy Car Parks

Forward bay parking in busy car parks can be tricky. I am hoping that this short video helps explain some of the things that you should be looking for, such as a good space to drive into to and one to avoid. Good control of the clutch and gas and great observations.

I always reverse park into a bay, Just find it so much easier plus the method on how to do it that I had been taught never fails me to be bang on in my box. :) Passed my test at the end of may.

Honestly. I am absolutely gutted this wasn't in my test! Nope they had reverse parking. Whenever I go to Asda I drive into a space! Best way !

I have a huge thing about bay parking .. passed my test a year ago and since iv passed I have not parked between 2 cars my anxiety goes through the roof !!! I have no problem parallel parking or any other problems but bay parking I end up parking right at the back of car parks

Hi! I know this is an old video but I need some advice hopefully you will see! I really lack confidence forward bay parking. I passed in January and had a little scrape with another car in march. Completely my fault I turned a bit late and misjudged it. I hit the back right of a car with my front left. I drive a C1 and my bonnet is tiny and I cannot see it from my seat even if I lean forward therefore it is a massive blindspot. Please can I have some advice? Parking between two cars is my biggest fear. Parking on my left makes more sense in this situation but I really struggle with the positioning and turning on this

The best tip is if you are going to forward into a space with cars on either side is to NOT expect to just drive in on the first go. You would always start to turn your car in, but stop before it enters, then reverse back a bit to get a better position(angle) to drive in. Hope that makes sense.

Hi James, I passed my test on 13th June and I’ve had my car since 4th July. I am finding that as the weeks have gone on, I’m feeling less and less confident about driving and have started to avoid going out so I don’t have to drive my car. I’m devastated because I worked so hard to get to this point and now I feel nervous about driving. Have you got any tips or advice? I don’t want to be so nervous and avoid going places. I did the dual carriageway on the 2nd day of having my car and had a panic attack when I came off it. Thank you in advance.

Hi, i'm not qualified or anything, just some thoughts from my experience. I didn't want to drive when i first got my car, i was really nervous and had no confidence in what i was doing. Are you able to go out with an experienced driver? That helped me a lot with nerves as they can talk you through what's going on. Also, take small drives on roads that you know, don't go for anything too crazy, even just around the block if you feel you can't go very far. I feel that the longer you avoid driving the harder it's going to be to get back in and drive :) I hope you overcome the nerves and that you manage to grow in confidence! You've got this :)

On the test you'd obviously fail if the car was over the white lines but would you fail if it's on the white lines?

If you go out and reposition the car in between the white lines you should be ok. If you leave the car on the white line, then it’s up to the examiner to decide if it’s not complete and a possible fail.

If the worst were to happen on your test and you did go in at an angle, are you allowed to shunt in and out?

Yes you are allowed to shunt forward and back if needed.

Learn-to-drive Travis I had to take a shunt on my test. Nerves got the best of me on my approach. As soon as I realised that I was off, I explained to the instructor that I was going to realign myself. I then made sure that ALL my observations were followed through, reversed back, reobserved, and drove back in as I had been taught in my lessons. In my debrief following the lesson the examiner made a point of saying to my instructor that he liked the communication I made as completing a shunt didn’t take him by surprise.
