Today I want to share some of the biggest and most annoying mistakes I used to make in my skincare routine. And skincare mistakes to avoid that i used to do and that i see all over the internet! Mainly Tik Tok and instagram skincare routine videos / compilations!
This may not necessarily be mistakes, but they’re definitely things I did that really hindered my routine and stopped me from getting the most benefits from my products and routine.
We also take a look at how long your skincare products actually take to work and why you may feel that your skincare products have stopped working / no longer work!

Also, i'm obviously not a dermatologist or a doctor, so all opinions on products and anything else i'm presenting, is results and findings from my own experience and research.
And that's why i'm here, to share my research and my findings that go further than what is said on the bottle or google!
But, everything I present is always a discussion for you to join in with :)
If you have any serious skin concerns, please see a dermatologist / doctor.

Skincare saved my life I literally never go out and cry everyday on the mirror because I felt so bad for my skin/acne. I think that perfect doesn't exist all that beauty comunnity just make unaccessible goals for people so they keep buying.. No reason to feel bad for not having "perfect skin" the best version of your skin it's enough.

#4 almost made me cry lol. I struggled SO LONG with red, flakey, itchy, dry skin around my nose (like you said!) and below my lip, and around my eyes. I spent SO much money switching between different eye creams and face creams to work out why. It didn't dawn on me until much later that my micellar water could be the culprit! They claim to be so gentle and good for sensitive skin. After a few weeks of not using any leave-on product save for moisturizer (I switched to cream cleansers), the problem started going away. It's obvious to me now (how on Earth can a leave-on cleanser be good for skin?). But I'm so glad you mentioned it as well! God I was in such agony over it, spent so much money switching products around, I was so frustrated.

I think you are completely right and I know how hard it is to keep things simple when you are a skincare fanatic. It's nice to feel like you are treating your skin, but by doing too much you run the risk of actually spoiling it. You have to understand that even without any conscious effort to take care of your skin, your body will do it's best to make sure your skin is well. I think it's good to trust in your body and not overwhelm it with all these products we think will be a miracle. Thank you for all your videos James! You really are one of the most rational beauty youtubers. Videos like your teeth whitening and under eye dark circle videos attack the deeper issue and go beyond "use baking soda to white teeth" or "use this undereye cream". Thank you again for being realistic and never pushing a big company or brand's agenda onto your fans!

That was some reali-TEA. I think brands a influencers have convinced us with the perfect routine we will have that glass skin gorgeous flawless face.... but sometimes that’s just not real. I have a rigorous and amazing skincare routine but due to my rosacea and discoloration (which I’ve had forever) I will never have that perfect bright even skin, and I need to accept that and love myself more

I have switched up products so often only because I want to get a quick routine with the most benefits. I actually enjoy doing my face at night, so much so I think I'm switching purposefully just to have a reason to do more. Thankfully I haven't had a negative issue from always switching up. You have taught me alot so I'm careful about ingredients which possibly helps keep my skin clear. Thanks for all your research and videos!!😘

Totally agree with your last point about just not using a product and I would expand it to a whole step in a routine. As a teenager, my mom would nag me that I _need_ to wash my face morning and night but my dermatologist told me that would be too much for my skin and advised against cleansing more than once a day. I have fun with skincare but *my* needs come first so I try to avoid the temptation of trends or fun products.

I discovered that sometimes less is more. So if I've been out in the sun a lot, even with SPF it can be irritating. So I'd come home and do a layer of aloe gel then all these serums to evem out my skin tone. I realised all I really needed was to double cleanse, use GBR and the Mugwort cream and that worked wayyy better than the extensive routine

I also had some of the bad habits James talked about, like using too many products at the same time (now toner, two serums and moisturizer and that's it), and scrubbing...I gave up physical exfoliators long ago because I found out that they made me break out. It is also really important, and I did not do it, to adjust your skincare according to the weather and the present needs of the skin, just learn to listen to it.

Im still in Uni, plus i really dont want to waste products, so that would be really, really helpful! Also, thank you for your videos, theyre very informative and no-bullshit-ish, hehe.

Dear James..... Just at Min.8:18 you are talking about Micellar Water... YESSS, they write on their Packaging that it is not neccessary to wash it off.... But as I've used this Products I had always a bad feeling about to leave it without washing away with clear, lukewarm Water that they stay on my Skin - I didn't feel comfortable with this! And I wash my Face always with fresh clean Water to push the "Rest's" away! Thank you that you recommend this, too! 😍👍😉

@rita.itsa.m
@rita.itsa.m 4 жыл бұрын
@@user-cf1od6pv2s micellar water is like a 'cleansing step' that I personally prefer to use with a cotton pad before my actual cleanser. A toner is supposed to be used after cleansing and you don't need to rinse it! I don't use one right now but I think they're usually more aimed towards moisturization. So a toner is not something that you should use as a cleanser! I hope I explained myself well and that I didnt say anything incorrect 🙈💕

I started to get sucked in by the clean beauty movement & wsd using EWG regularly. Although, by trying to use "clean" Ingredients showed me that I am very sensitive to essential oils & fragrance. So, natural skincare actually bothered my skin more than conventional. I now check Ingredients before buying. So, I do still use these sites occasionally when I'm doing that.
