Jamie even showed his teeth and made a dumb face, he was trying to help but Doug really took it personally, it shows when he said some people can't have money that they don't let anyone say nothing about them or some shit like that. Jamie stick his neck out for Doug to bite him and Doug just choked, so Jamie got frustrated and showed him how it's done.

Here's what makes someone like Jeff Ross so great. Yes, he'll have 30 to 45 minutes of material already ready on a sheet of paper in front of him, but if a heckler or comedian tries to derail him off his set he is witty enough, smart enough, and quick enough to go off the cuff and on the fly and bury them and still be able to transition smoothly back into his prewritten set. Doug didn't have those skills. At a comedy roast it's kill or die. Doug died.

Pretty sure any comedian would have taken it personally (s they do anytime a heckler shows up to a set) but most would have come back and made Jamie look real foolish. Aaron Briggs No this has never happen before any roast. There have been PLENTY of roast where a couple of people were lame but there were not treated like that. If jokes were made, the person waited till it WAS their TURN TO SPEAK. An didnt drown the person that was speaking out. And there was nothing doug could do, Jamie had the loudest mic. It wasnt like a regular heckler in the audience. You say it happens. Show me one Roast where this has happened before. I'll show you plenty where the people talking were flat or unfunny or didn't get many laughs. EVERY host had he respect and professionalism to give them their time and didn't act like a common drunk heckler. The point was that Jamie took advantage of the fact he was the host with loudest mic He could have waited till Doug sat down like every other host during a roast. The people defending Jamie do not understand the true purpose of a roast. They do understand how long they have been going on far and how many hardcore legends have hosted them It's not just about being a jackass or being some immature high school brat.

Bottom line, Jamie Foxx was just starting to come up in his career and want about to let a young upstart come in and clown him. So he went in on him. If you've seen the roast, the entire panel was A & B list celebs. So if any of them clowned Jamie it would've been understood as being all in fun because it was one of his peers (so to speak). However, Doug Williams was a low level comedian that wasn't really known at that time. So Jamie let it be known he wasn't gonna let a "Nobody" come up off him. Therefore he proceeded to destroy him. Now some may think he was funny and some may think he was being a dick, I won't dispute either or. But I will say this, for whatever reason Jamie did it, that's how it is in the industry. Someone is always coming for your spot so you gotta hold your own. If Doug had it he would've rose to the challenge and busted back at Jamie and proved that he deserved to be there and earned his spot. Unfortunately he didn't, perhaps proving that he didn't belong there at the time. But Doug has recovered and gone on to do some pretty big things, even hosting Martin Lawrence's 1st amendment comedy on Starz for 3 or 4 seasons. So the roast experience may have hurt him in the beginning but it also helped him down the line. So now whenever someone decides they want to challenge him, her can stand up and show them just who the fuck he is.

Jaquiez Douglas this is a great perspective on this whole situation. Unfortunately this type of thing as bad as it could be for a guy like Doug is just part of the game. It's a dog eat dog world

Well said Jamie and I are the same age now. I think Jamie today would have been more merciful. The Doug Williams of today would have kicked Jamie's ass for heckling him as he's one of the funniest stand up comedians around. I've seen Doug live and he's right up there with Aries Spears and RIP Patrice Oneal in his level of comedy. Not low level anymore. Great post here Jaquiez.
@llamawizard7 жыл бұрын
it was personal. he kept interrupting.
@blaynegreiner93655 жыл бұрын
Jamie would not have interrupted had Doug said something funny in retort. There were plenty of moments he paused to let Doug respond with something funny but it didn't happen so he tore into him. That's the world of comedy.

Well, I don't agree that Doug Williams doesn't have any talent but I will agree that he was unprepared for the roast. At a roast you are supposed to write jokes about each person and be ready to say them and Doug clearly didn't do that. What Jamie did wasn't roasting it was heckling and it wasn't fair because hecklers don't get mics. Jamie wasn't allowing Doug to finish his thought or even have a chance to get the crowd on his side and that was bull. Comics don't heckle comics period.

It started off funny, then it wasn't funny.... but at the end when he said "I'm not Jamie Foxx.... I'm your conscience", killed it.

Call me sensitive, but I thought Jamie was over the top here. I understand that it's comedy and you have to be thick skinned, but Doug was given no opportunity to redeem himself. He was spoken over the top of the entire time which really surpassed the line of funny and it turned into disrespect. Also, I would have classed Doug as very much a junior comedian with lesser status and less of an established presence so he already had to try harder than the rest of them. Jamie really did bully him all to make himself look good. Ya'll can call me a crying sensitive biznitch, but this really was a form of bullying where the strong preyed upon the weaker individual. Don't let your your being a fan blur what really went on here. I lost a bit of respect for Jamie after this.

If y'all paid attention, Doug stated he was a better comedian than Jaime before the roast. He came for Jamie and Jamie picked the right moment to prove why he's in the position he's in. Doug couldn't handle it.

Jamie knows he used his vastly overwhelming acting, improvisational comedy and MERC'd Doug lol. Doug had plenty of time and probably some amazing comedy writers to help him with his act but he came out and it wasn't happening. Doug to be fair is an outstanding comic. I've seen his stand up a few times and it's hilarious. Just wasn't his NIGHT that night.

lol agreed, there is a real insult comedy culture between comedians to begin with, but a roast is truely open season, the non comedian celebs who are invited to the dais are fully warned ahead of time, they know they will get ripped on and are expecting it. Watch the bob saget roast, the more insulting the insults, the harder he laughs. Roasting has a long established history of having no limits, even auduence members know that they can be a target. To bad you complainers only have this to watch

As a stand-up comedian, I feel for the guy. Jamie Foxx could have showed some class and at the same time, Doug should have been ready. When you perform on a big stage, you got to be ready!! If you aren't ready, don't perform, or perform in a smaller venue.
