I’m a Wire fanatic. It is the best series ever made. I would love to be part of a discussion review group. I can watch the series again and again and get something new every time. I digress. I have never disliked a character as much as Marlo Stanfield. Hector played the part brilliantly because I swear I found myself blurring the line between character and individual. LOL Marlo was probably the most cold hearted character ever to hit the small screen.

Marlo was a great villian, just brutal. Unwavering no compromise. I originally didnt like him, he wasnt a guy I wanted to have beer with. Avon was more fluid, had a personality you could like him on some levels of humanity. Marlo was cold as a witches titty in a brass bra in December. He won me over fucking with Herc, just slapping heads in the co-op, and becoming the tyrant Avon wishes he rose to. The way he and Chris played off each other, I grew to love their time and I had initially went into it missing some original characters from the previous seasons. These guys grabbed the baton and continued to make this show incredible. I doubt anything as powerful and eye opening will be on your TV in some time. I think im on my second reply just during the pandemic. I do a full five season dump every couple of years. Brilliant.

@@steverogers7601 I think you are missing the point though. Avon cared about his street rep, but he still knows staying out of prison takes precedence over petty namecalling. I mean the very scene itself would seem to indicate that not one person of significance lost respect for Marlo because of what _Omar_ said. @A Johnson Marlo could never do what Vondas does because of his mentality and obsession with name/title. Marlo couldn’t even sit in Prop Joe’s seat. Marlo could have ruled the streets in a different time but with pd getting more technology better forensics his brand of violence would catch up to him fast. The ending also shows how he never could have stayed quiet and went to his old ways immediately. This is a tv show not real life the writer obviously used the same exact line but the inverse intentionally and introduces Marlo after Vondas says that next season. Also D thought the buck stopped at the “king” which was Avon but didn’t make it to the other seasons to see who was really controlling everything.

They both got hustled the same way by that crooked white attorney. The subtext of the show is that No Man is Bigger Than the Machine, Society or the System they operated in. One person dies, another fills their road. Stringer Dies, Marlo is pulled in as the food for the rich to eat, just like they did Stringer Bell. This is opposed to a show like The Shield which was all about an individual becoming bigger than what he has sworn to serve. All these stories ended the same with ppl never ending up exactly where they wanted to be.

Love how people think Marlo was nothing without Chris. The fact that he follows Marlo says a lot about who Marlo is. The fact that he didn't want to tell Marlo about Omar says a lot.

Now you made me think. You got fucking right. Maybe Chris already knew up about Marlo being a psychopath or something like that. Just when Marlo put his gun in the mouth of that girl and pulled the trigger, you know that boy is really fucked up inside lol
@johntaaustin293
@johntaaustin293 4 жыл бұрын
Chris didn’t want to tell Marlo about Omar because he knew Marlo’s ego was too big and there was no way to guarantee a result when warring against Omar which is why Chris wanted to leave Omar alone in the first place. Chris’ thinking proved true as it was a child with no connection to the Stansfield crew that solved their problem. And Omar was a problem as we saw that he knew exactly where everyone was from the list in his pocket. Chris was saving Marlo. Plenty of people have managed to get heavy muscle to follow them without doing a bunch of dirty work. Marlo fed them all which is a good way to do that.
@ericksantos4555
@ericksantos4555 4 жыл бұрын
@@johntaaustin293 It wasn't just Marlo. It was everyone. If someone called Omar out, he would respond as well. Chris didn't make the smart decision because if Marlo dies, he dies. He said it himself when he was warned about wearing the crown, prisons and graveyards are full of boys that have worn the crown. THE POINT IS THEY WORE IT. That's what it was about. Chris didn't want to mess with Omar because he knows what Omar is capable of. Marlo and Avon were the same in that they wanted him dead. However, Marlo looked weak because Chris didn't tell Marlo the truth. Kenard was connected to the Stanfield crew, unless it wasn't him.
@johntaaustin293
@johntaaustin293 4 жыл бұрын
Erick Santos you’re right Kenard was a street kid who worked for Michael & Michael worked for Marlo. A very distant and loose connection but you are a right a connection all the same. Chris understood Marlo’s obsession with having his name go down in the history books but also how many people failed in trying to put an end to Omar. Hard to beat a homeless guy who has no connection to the game other than a blind man that it seems only Prop Joe knew about for a while. Marlo’s obsession with going down in history wasn’t even realized. In the end, kids on the corner had already forgotten him & Omar was still being discussed.

His last scene on the show where he confronts the young hoods on the street in a suit showed exactly that he can hold his own . Even after getting out and walking away with virtually no legal ramifications despite being responsible for god nmknows how many murders he was willing to face any danger over his name. He missed the life. He definitely wasn't no punk.

The entire series dealt with many themes. Some of them were pretty heavy handed. (The police vs various street factions represented the u.s. invasion of Iraq) but the drug game itself and all the players and victims were a representation of unfettered capitalism and the collateral damage it causes.

My interpretation of this scene was that Marlo is really just a damaged child under it all. Can't stand any hits to ego, can't show any flex which might show weakness. Which is why he's so ruthless but also why can't really form any bonds with people. Notice how distant he always is, even with Chris, supposedly his 'right hand man'. And the only time he lets himself feel any emotion is here, for his slighted ego.
