What made Ring so valuable was not that number of doorbells they sold, which was a lot. It was the recurring monthly subscription they charge to host the Ring videos for sharing. It was really quite genius. If he had brought that to the attention of the sharks at the time, I think they would have taken a shot.
@jdm58578 ай бұрын
At the time i dont think it had the video storage feature or the morion activation. Was still very raw but had a ton of potential

MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) Monthly recurring revenue is the true way to earn shit tons of money. You start a contract or membership with someone (membership in his case) and you get paid. This make your business very predictable and makes others invest in it because it is predictable. This also secures revenue for the company. No customers this month? Still no problem. This also stacks up on top of other memberships and you earn exponential and shit loads of money

There has been clarification as to why people rejected his ask - it wasnt because of the lack of proof of concept. Relative competitive market, no sales and CRAZY valuation at this stage (7mil). The fact that Kevin did it was purely to gamble on him specifically.
@tojissock3160 Жыл бұрын
1 million in 9 months is no where near “no sales”. a 7x valuation is not crazy at all
@ThatGuy743311 ай бұрын
As an investor, you see if the idea has merit. In this case, anybody can see that his ask was justified because of the vision for something like this. It's a smart idea and I believe he had a patent on it. Wasn't much of a gamble. They just had a narrow mind and are always looking for quick buck and not the bigger view of things.
@warallied11 ай бұрын
@@ThatGuy7433 investors, angel or technical - are always looking for risk/cost ratio. The higher the cost, the lower relative the risk must be. Even with a risk of 0, there is such a thing as too costly - which can lead to the thought of: ill never make my money back. On the flip side: someone charges 50$ but never worked in his life, barely finished high school and wants to become a streamer - you may tell yourself that its not worth it and ull never see your money again. That being said: everyone has a different many shades of tolerance.
