great stuff my man!! as someone with a percussion perf degree, there is no way you don't get accepted in this program. you nailed the feel of so many styles. I especially liked your bossa grooves and your snare etude!! btw a cool variation of the samba: put a partido alto on the bell of the ride and fill the spaces in with ghost notes. that one is so fun to groove on! best of luck!

Hey man, your audition is great! Have you gotten accepted?
@paulp.97283 ай бұрын
@@jamiewells3829 thanks! apparently that wasnt enough for them so they denied my application, sucks but i have more time to prep everything this year and i also will be using your audition as a template so i dont mess up any recording criteria this time, so yea thanks for posting yours here. (expecting to meet you in college next year :) (also if you dont mind asking, what program you were applying for?)

Today, the algorithm brought me to you. Who knows why!? Good luck with your application, I think you nailed it. First of all, there's a triskelion on you wall that's upside down. Quocunque jeceris stabit: whithersoever you throw it, it will stand. It doesn't kneel. :) As another commenter said, I can't see you not passing the audition, it was solid. Constructive criticism: 1) your right arm is much freer and moves loosely from shoulder, elbow and wrist appropriately and at various dynamics. Your left arm is stuck and only the wrist articulates in 95% of your playing. This isn't a problem when playing soft, but generating accents over and over purely from the wrist /might/ not work out so well long term, and at louder dynamics doesn't provide the energy for rebounds to be generated or controlled. All the great kit players I have watched have some sort of "throw" or "karate chop" action from the elbow when playing accents and rebounds, the shoulder has to be loosened up to get this. 2) When articulating the RH fingers in the jazz ride pattern/doubles both with sticks and brushes you open the fingers more than the stick swings/follows them - losing control and reducing the effect of your close/snap. This is primarily, in my opinion, due to the fulcrum being too close at the front. Less tension/more space in the fulcrum means more swing back and rebound on the stick, which means more potential for the snap to work on the stick, not thin air. This can lead to both more power and better articulation. "Keep the skin on the stick" with regard to rear fingers. 3) generally I think you make great sounds, but I don't like your thumb position, it seems to be too off/below the stick, forcing tension into the index or wherever you put the fulcrum. Front, mid and rear fulcrums are all fine, but I'd look at where people put their thumb and what it's working in partnership with fulcrum wise as I think it looks awkward/tight. Not everyone does what I do, but I'd say relax the index fingers and rely more on the middle finger. JoJo Mayer, Bruce Becker, Claus Hessler, David Garibaldi, Larnell Lewis are some examples of different players who have a similar look, and they all adapt their grips situationally. Anyway I'll shut up now, your solos are already more interesting than mine :). 👍🥁
