We have some kind of a mental connection I think. Two days ago I started to learn So What with my local teacher and I was searching for good exercises. No luck, they all were about an introduction, which is trivial. But here we have a masterpiece to explore. Thank you!!!

I didn't read the title and was enjoying the resemblance to 'so what' in your playing at the start, makes more sense now.

The G to F major chords seem to imply a G dominant or G Mixolydian tonality which contains the same notes as the D Dorian scale, which is usually used for minor tonality and chord progressions. No? Semantics I know, but you are the one with the schooling. Where did I go wrong?
@jamieholroydguitar8 жыл бұрын
Hey, maybe looking at harmonized major scales. D Dorian comes from the C major scale as does F Lydian and G Mixoldyian. Bill Evans uses F and G triads in the So What theme but most of the improv is based off minor scales. Hope this helps.

Jamie...do think in terms of modes (ex: c dorian = Bb major scale) or half's and whole steps in the key you're playing in? Sounds great man.
@jamieholroydguitar7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Fawn. I think more in musical phrases and ideas but I am aware of the scales and keys at the same time... after many years of practice of course!
