It's a new year, so that calls for a brand new makeup routine! I challenged myself to not use all of the products that I (over)use everyday, along with some techniques that I haven't used in a while!

I did the same, having to be in class/at work early meant I didn't have time or opportunity to experiment but for the weekends. Had to just go with quick and reliable stuff, sometimes even skip makeup. I learned a lot in the last 2 years experimenting with my makeup a lot more when I had that extra time and no pressure if things didn't work out I didn't have to worry about people looking at that for the whole day.

My makeup has definitely been more “muted” over the last couple years as well. I do the bare minimum now and honestly, I feel the most pretty in it. I rarely do more full glam looks or even play with “fun” makeup. Also side note…that lip color is STUNNING on you!! Loved this video 💗

I discovered makeup and this whole community in the last 2 years! Actually, I was doing puzzles year 1, and this last year I've been doing my face. I'm not new either - I'm very (very) close to 50 years old. I always had nice makeup, but I never really thought or cared about it. I had one of each thing that whatever lady at whatever place told me to buy, and just did the same thing every single day. I'm having so much fun now! But one downside - it used to take me 40 minutes total hair/clothes/face to get ready and now it's dangerously close to 2 hours!

I find I got more creative and "fearless" especially with my eyeshadow game (still have to wear a mask here), just bough some stunning multichromes and will wear them even at the supermarket😂, who cares if I am the only one in my little town who enjoys bold makeup looks sometimes! every since the pandemic started my overall style changed: clothes, hair and of course my makeup, it began to be cleaner, neutral, more minimal yet elevated. I’m telling you, I LOVED globe so much.. it was my everyday shade. Grab the 75 degree and gold lust palettes from roen. The colors are sooooo similar, give the same glitter effect, and glossy shade in the gold lust palette.

I’ve definitely went more minimal with my makeup lately! I usually do concealer, cream bronzer/ blush powder under eyes and sometimes highlight. I do do my brows with a pencil and gel, and then usually a light brown crease with a brown shadow liner. Honestly I really like it! I still love to glam sometimes but for day to day I keep it light and I’ve been enjoying it.

I’m a nurse so the last 2 years have been rough for the makeup lover in me. I’ve literally worn a medical mask for over 12 hours a day , and on my days off I was makeup free and in my sweats. Pretty depressing actually, gone my bright lipstick and dewy foundation! Jackie Aina has a video on makeup for masks that completely changed my make up game , powdering my primer, then cream countour , pat McGrath concealer then foundation! It works really well so I’m coming around to loving make up again, and love the good apple foundation with this routine , lasts all day and great coverage!

I feel like I couldn’t possibly have picked a worse video to put this request in lmao but if you’re feeling it someday I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new skin tints to hit the market (Shiseido, Caliray, Rose Inc.) and on the brand Simi Haze-their products/packaging/aesthetic is super intriguing to me!! The Kosas cloud set is such a good powder so it's understandable that you use it often, I do too! I stopped wearing foundation but now focus on eyes and experimenting with different eyeshadow looks, I also bought quite a few palettes last year. Before 2020, I used to just cake my face with foundation, then just eyeliner and lipstick and that's it. I never used to use eyeshadow. Now my foundations have remained untouched for like two years, they are defo expired lol. I've just been using powder for complexion, concealer to cover up dark circles and cream blush rather than foundation.

I stepped back so much in the last two years with makeup. Day to day I really focus on skincare and if I’m feeling special maybe a Cavier eye stick, mascara and eyebrow gel. This is not just the state of the world we’ve been going through, I started with Botox injections for migraines only. While they really do help, I’ve lost so much of my eyelids. But I still love skin tints, and all cream products hence why you are a favorite. Even through I’ve been watching you so much longer. Hey I like chatty Jamie❤️💕

Hi Jamie! I live in Hawaii where the mask mandate is still in effect. I hate the feeling of anything under my mask so I just wear concealer, brows and mascara! The bare minimum and I love it 🤗

These last two years has been the least I’ve worn makeup… i basically am bare faced or very light every day now. BUT when lockdowns were a thing some friends and I would do makeup and drink wine over Zoom together and we’d do FULL glam or drag looks haha… to go out nowhere 🙃 definitely want to get back into makeup this year ❤️

Another good tip for the KVD balm foundation is to start in the center of the face and blend outwards. It’s so good!!! Especially for dry skin, I’ve been looking for a foundation for my skin type for years……and I’m so happy I tried this one!!! It’s been great!! A little definitely goes a long way!

Def very simple and consistent makeup. I was never super adventurous but I liked trying lots of different products. I found I needed reliable products that would stay on with wearing masks and wouldn’t look weird. idk if you've checked out the pretty natural hydrating foundation from essence recently 👀👀 but it's been one of those foundations that i started to really use end of December and even more in January because it is THAT good, pretty undetectable on the skin and so affordable i could cry. but yes I totally feel like I've gotten tame because to go anywhere, we still need masks - the destroyer of makeup!

My routine has definetely changed for a couple of reasons over the last little while. The pandemic definetely has a big part of it with masks and not wanting to clogg my skin, but also because I went into working in a very male-dominated world where a lot of makeup is frowned upon. Add the fact that I am blond and young, I have toned it down a lot in order to be taken seriously. Hate that it has had an impact but it has. I just left that job and am gonna start wearing lipstick everyday again and more makeup and damn I am looking forward to it😍

I got microblading this year, which I’ve always wanted it’s definitely transformed my brown routine (and my self image). My brows naturally don’t have an arch, and tended to look sad and downtuned, plus never matched my red hair. Now I have highly realistic hairstrokes in my arches and a subtle red tint under it all. Now when I look in the mirror I go from "oh yes that’s definitely a face, truly a blank canvas" to "oh that’s me, and I look like how I see myself" - Now I can put only brow gel in the fronts of the brow and nothing else. Or add red shadow if I want to match a bold look. But on the other side of things, I’ve fully committed to a softly darkly romantic look and kinda turned my back on a natural eye look. I only want to wear darker or grungy shadows paired with my soft skin, blushed cheeks and various rose toned lip looks. Plague life and mask wearing has led me to be way less interested in all my bolder lip colours. I’m basically only wearing Bobbi Brown's Crushed Lip Colour in Cranberry or Romand's Juicy Lastin Tint in Dark Coconut. And the only thing catching my eye is other medium slightly brown toned rose-berry shades.

I feel quite the opposite, since 2020, I shaved my brows, then just the tail(was fantastic when I did my brows- much more fierce and symmetrical). I colored my hair blonde, purple, grey, got a pixie from shoulder length black virgin hair and yes my mom and I did burn it a bit but oh well- still looks awesome. and I've made a group chat with a couple friends who don't do much makeup sending them my makeup looks and trying new techniques and shapes.. they send me ideas to try? idk, I was into fun makeup before but I jumped in head first into all of it and I love it

I feel like I’ve invested more in quality makeup that has more skincare properties and is much more sheer than I’ve used in the past. Make up is totally different now- I feel like I use it as a way to boost my mental health, not so much to experiment or like be loud with anymore. My makeup routine has always been pretty natural. Tinted SPF, one eyeshadow color, mascara and lipgloss/lip balm. The only thing I change on a regular basis is the one eyeshadow color. My makeup is so muted now. I do my eyebrows, sunscreen, and I gently blot on a bit of lipstick lol. I used to contour with the KVD palette, do nice eyeshadow looks with my ABH master palette, and play with highlighter before going to class 😭 Miss those days! Tinted sunscreen, eyebrows, mascara, little bronzer...out the door. When I have done a full face of makeup recently, I just feel like my skin looks off. I think I'm just not used to seeing my face without my freckles or even some imperfections peaking through. I still love to play with makeup but also appreciate that we are all feeling a little more comfortable in our own skin.

My make up game has definitely changed in the past two years. It’s essentially nonexistent. I gave up wearing makeup by July 2020, it just was too difficult. I was going through masks because my makeup was ruining them. Last year I dedicated my time to skincare.I’m still working on getting my routine down with my dermatologist but I’m very happy with the progress I’ve made. As for makeup, I’m not sure how I’m going to get back into wearing it. I want to but I need to find products that work with my skin now.

In the beginning of lockdown I wanted to experiment with makeup looks and different eyeshadow colors because if I didn’t like the look no one would see it, and I could restart if I wanted to since I didn’t need to rush off to work. Hi Jamie! This was such a great video. I also repeat my makeup a lot, of course it makes sense for me because I work in a clinic and keep everything pretty subtle and easy. My difference would probably be that I wear eyeshadow every day to work because we wear masks all the time and while lip products are my favorite, what even is the point right now? That said, I did treat myself to a Fenty beauty heat lip gloss, The new one in lemon. I am so happy with it. PS, that is not Globe! 😩 which I bought because of you. What a cool video idea! The look turned out gorgeous! I'm right with you though on the Kosas eyeshadows. I'm a huge fan of Element, the warm brown they used to do and the replacement shade looks completely different even in the swatches. Bummer about the product size too...

I'm so aggravated by the reformulated Kosas situation. Especially since the original ended a years long search for a dupe of an OG favorite of mine which was a Chanel eye liquid eye shadow line that they discontinued.... now it's been taken from me. Again. So much "WHY!!?" in my heart 😓

I’m a little sad about the globe eyeshadow. I purchased based on your recommendation and it was even the eyeshadow I wore on my wedding. I guess I’ll just appreciate it while I have it. Also for some reason this was the video that made me buy the em cosmetics brow cream even though you didn’t use it😂

I love all your neutral looks it's nice to see you try new things I am one of those people that are scared to go outside of my comfort zone which is neutral eye look with a mauve or rose toned lippy

I'm a professional mua (for many years) and I do find most clients have scaled back in the last 2 years. I have also scaled back for most days as well. But it could be with me being in my 30s now. I think a lot of people are tired nowadays and don't want to spend a ton of time on makeup. More people are focused on skincare and haircare now.

Your brows are so nice I thought you had already done them off camera… when you said “for my brows… I’m going to fill them in” I was surprised 😂 You’re making me want to put down my Kosas tinted oil and buy that apple stuff… my cloud set isn’t going anywhere though 😀
