Beautiful reaction. Thanks for posting this!! A few interesting things about this video and Bette Midler: The video: this is footage from a film called The Rose. Here is a paragraph from Wikipedia about the film: Loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin, the film follows a self-destructive rock star in the late 1960s, who struggles to cope with the pressures of her career and the demands of her ruthless business manager. The vocalist: Bette Midler is a singer/actress or actress/singer. Though her acting roles have mostly been comedic (she is a dynamic, funny, over the top/animated personality and just nails these roles) she is also an excellent dramatic actress. Some Bette Midler comedies: Ruthless People, Drowning Mona, Hocus Pocus, Big Business and The First Wives Club. Some Bette Midler dramas: The Rose, Beaches, For the Boys, Gypsy and Freak Show. "The Divine Miss M" (as she's sometimes known), at the beginning of her music career, performed in gay bathhouses (in the 1960s) at a time when being gay was equated with being a non-human. She stood by the gay community through the early years of the AIDS crisis when anti-gay discrimination was toxic and celebrities speaking out for the gay community would be ostracized. She helped raise countless money for AIDS research and has been charitable in many other causes as well. She remains a gay icon to this day, though she herself is straight. Her piano accompanist was Barry Manilow (another great rabbit hole). She's a great rabbit hole, for music and movies. I strongly suggest "From A Distance" a song she performed in the 1980s that is quite beautiful. That was a lot of typing. I guess I'm just a big, big fan of the Divine Miss M (I'm a 5-paragraph-size fan). Glad you enjoyed your intro to Bette. All the best.
