A friend of mine bought a used X2D from another friend - and is totally happy with what he gets out of it. Especially regarding colors and mixed lighting: Results look extremely natural, color casts are always looking as if it is as we would see it with our own eyes. I had the chance to play around with the camera for some shots, and I found it quite pleasant to handle. Way out of budget for me, but it seems to be worth the money. And very wise words at the beginning.

I’d love to get my hands on one but it will never happen. It’s so suitable and beautiful for my usage and barely used photography hobby, far more so than when I was a working photographer where I wouldn’t have looked at it twice. Oh well. In your first project I see the mode of waiting, in-between time, silence before...the images are emotional and metaphorical, have a depth and mystery. By all means continue with it. In your industrial project, I'm disturbed by the light stars that draw the eye and give everything a decorative touch when it's actually a serious matter... I am always very pleased to discover a new video from you, because it really makes me think. So in conclusion: a big thank you! And good luck!!!

I use a Ricoh gr iii for everyday carry, and the IBIS is insane! I can do hand-held long exposure for up to 2-3secs and is still insanely sharp, tug your elbows in exhale slowly and shoot! It amazes me every time how sharp they turn out, I was shooting a full moon on the beach with the industrial harbor in the horizon, at 1 AM and got sharp creative photos without a tripod and a small pocket point and shoot.

So excited every time you release a video. :) Some thoughts to contribute: - I love the B&W series by the canal, but I really like moody, timeless shots of man-made structures in nature, especially when devoid of people - I struggle SO much with deciding what projects to make - I have lots of ideas but most require a time investment I don't have or would take so long to complete that I can see myself losing interest/focus; it's a personal trait/flaw that I tend to need shorter-term projects where I can make rapid bursts of progress over longer, amorphous timelines. - I struggle even MORE with making my projects public; it's not because I worry about someone stealing my idea - if anything, they might have better luck completing it; it's that if I give up on the idea or fail to see it through it sounds terrible to do so publicly. I fully appreciate that getting feedback from trusted sources is important, but I've only gotten more insular with my work as I've grown in skill. Maybe it's that I'm worried I'll share it and people will think it sucks and I'll feel like I haven't improved at all. It's a difficult thing to love photography so much and to feel so fragile about people seeing my work (or perhaps not even seeing it at all, thanks Instagram). I know this is all in my head, but it's hard to get out of there. :) I truly appreciate you sharing your thought processes like this because it helps convince those like me to push out of our comfort zones and try again. Your work is important on many levels, Jamie, and I'm grateful for it.

Thank you for this. I needed this as I am getting back into my conceptual photography. You asked for thoughts on the series you parked with spaces devoid of people. I love the concept and the images you got. I am an introvert and all those spaces felt so open and perfect for me. I have done a series on the differences between “alone” and “lonely” exploring how they are different and where they overlap. Your series touches in giving both “alone” and “lonely” areas to flow in and out of how I feel in the settings you shared.

My primary two projects on the go, I stumbled on. Just from opportunities showing themselves, and myself taking enough photos of similar opportunities.A pattern formed, and I decided, "oh, these would be nice together."". Now my eye is always locked into new opportunities to add to those projects, whilst I continue to still make the same trips out to just shoot every other opportunity. Perhaps other projects will come of those. But mostly, it's just for my own fun of it. I enjoy a wander with the camera, and taking images I want to look at. Anything more is bonus.

I liked the panoramic images most. They ate more representative of what we see with both eyes, a wide scene, and allow you to cut out thr clutter that close to you and the empty/boring/gray sky above - thus revealing more interesting things, rather than having a specific subject in your frame, in the classical western way of photography. On the contrary, the eastern way of doing photography is more contextual, considering all the elements of the frame together, rather than focusing on something specific - and this can give you a better story telling, mood passing element in your photos. So I'm for the panoramic shots! :)

Willem Verbeeck had a video a while back about the benefits of projects and so I've had a couple of my own I've been tackling slowly. One is more sentimental, just a series of friends and family portraits with things important to them near the entryways to their homes. The other is focused on the small machine shops that littered my inner-ring suburb supporting the auto industry. I saw them every day but hadn't the slightest idea what they actually made or who worked there. Many of the buildings are weathered and look like they struggle to even keep the lights on. They're utterly uninteresting to look at but that repetition throughout the town is appealing to me. I've been considering taking it deeper and trying to get inside to shoot the interiors and the people who work there, which I think would round out the project nicely.

Feedback on your projects: I think you were probably right to drop the black and white park idea. The shared images felt very much like typical 'walkaround' photos, taken at whatever time of day the photographer happened to be there, lacking a coherent thread or narrative. Almost everyone has a park nearby, so for such a project to work the photos really do need a compelling idea tying the images together, or very striking subject matter. Maybe give thought to what it is about parks - or that park in particular - you won't to say or convey. For what it's worth, I wouldn't spend too long on this ;) I love your Avonmouth images, particularly those taken during the day with overcast skies. The looming structures, council estate housing from a particular era, lack of people, how run down it is, the washed out colours, the less picturesque side of nature and so on are really interesting. I have driven through there on my way from Bristol to the M4, so recognise the flyover. I remember at the time being struck by the sight of it all. For me, there is a lot more of photographic interest at Avonmouth than there is a few miles along the road, at the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which has been photographed to death. Personally I think it's well worth photographers bearing this in mind: don't concern yourself with the Clifton Suspension Bridges of this world - what is nearby, and the world hasn't seen?
@jamiewindsorКүн бұрын
It's interesting you like Avonmouth images shot in the day. I think there's definitely an honesty to them that the night ones lack, although the night ones are more visually arresting - but maybe that's not the right approach. Thank you for the valuable feedback. I really appreciate it.
