One of the most touching and humanising scenes in the series.

This was the most moving and hopeful scene in the series. Just the best. Lump in throat right now...

Nearly every scene in The Handmaid's Tale simply leaves me feeling depressed and and hopeless. The entire society of Gilead is built around misery, violence, and death. This scene always beings a smile to my face, leaving me feeling like there just *might* be enough humanity left to eventually overcome the darkness that is Gilead.
@chad3232132 Жыл бұрын
@@curtlosborne Exactly this. I found this the most uplifting scene in the series. The most depressing had to be the opening scene from S3E13, which is a flashback of June in a warehouse/concentration camp, where you can see clearly mentally disabled women being marched to their mass murder.

In a series full of seemingly endless horror, violence, misery, and death, this scene always struck me as a rare glimpse at beauty and humanity in the sea of insanity that is Gilead.

Wow. These children are so quiet and obedient! My heart pounded all throughout in that whole save the children ordeal because I fear that one child might scream "i wanna go home!" or constantly ask "are we there yet?". LMAO.

There was a scene in one of the later seasons where Lawrence mentions how nearly all the new, younger handmaid's are entirely obedient, unlike June and the older handmaids of the past. Sadly, that would likely be the case. Young people who never knew the era before Gilead simply wouldn't have any notion of what freedom is, and would be far less likely to rebel against the system.

There's no good fate for Commander Lawrence. When Gilead falls he'll either be dead, or alive and tried in a court of law for the atrocities he's been complicit in. I like to think he knows this but helps anyway.

Or he can try fleeing. Since his wife's death, he got nothing to lose anyway.

And whilst he deserves no good ending for helping to create Gilead, I still slightly feel bad cuz I warmed up to him

If Gilead doesn't end in mass hangings of those responsible. The show failed. There is no forgiveness here

Look up Hjalmar Schacht, Lawrence seems to be based heavily on this character (an economist who served under Hitler but actively opposed the Final Solution who was later acquitted)
@David-lb5py3 жыл бұрын
He seems genuinely regretful of the society he helps create and his actions are reprehensible but he did play a huge role in angels flight and his actions ensured 83 children will NOT grow up to lifetime of rape and suffering

I have a theory that originally he supported the creation of Gilead but overtime as he saw how radical and oppressive it became he decided to work from the inside to destroy it. Kill the monster he help create.
