Jammu before 1947

Ambal tries to trace the history of Old Bazaar of Jammu, which is now called as Rajendra Bazaar. It is believed that famous singer Malika Pukhraj had stayed here too before partition of India. The market was named Urdu Bazaar/Kanjar Bazaar before Partition of India.

Nice Video. It rekindled so many memories. I am a Canadian originally from Sialkot. My Khalooo (Uncle) migrated from Jammu with his family. Most of his family was slain during the 1947 massacres. I had also heard a lot about Malika Pukhraj and her family is also related to my family in a remote way. Thanks for uploading this video. It shows how similar Jammu and Sialkot still are despite all the ravages of time.

I was born in Jammu and brought up in in City Chowk of Jammu. My Dada Pardada were from Sialkot UGOKI. I left Jammu about 45 years ago now but I remember every thing about Jammu. Every Gali every Mohalla. Then, Jammu was Just on the Hill from Panjhtirithi to Gumat gate and from Pir Mitha Circular road to City side of B C Road. Yes I knew about Malika PukhRaj, Kanak Mandi, Urdu/Kanjar Bazar, Mohalla Dalpatiyan, Gas Mandi Chowk to residency road opp.Dak Bunglow via Mohalla Dharugiran. Rajinder Bazar used to be REDLIGHT AREA of Jammu. I am so surprised about the people from that area shown in the video do not know anything about their history. OR THEY JUST PRETENDING TO BE INNOCENT....

Before 1947, Jammu district including today's Samba district and Kathua district were Muslim Majority as per the Census 1941 for population and religion. 65% population was Muslmaans. Kanjar means for Twaif.

Fake, check Census again- Kathua and Jammu were both Hindu majority. Muslims left from Jammu and Hindus left from Sialkot. If Jammu had 35% Muslims, Sialkot too had 35% Hindus and Sikhs

@@Ambalhills before 1947 there were some shops of muslims in rajinder bazar ..most of them were bakers.the muslims of darugeeran mohalla was invited by eighteenth century jammu king for production of gun powder for jammu army...the ustad mohalla was named after the maharaja muslim teacher who was from UP ..in 1947 the muslim population of jammu migrated to sialkot..only the poorest of muslims lived in.jammu after that.
