I’ve had a problem like this before. I would’ve responded exactly the same way that you did to this buyer. You did an excellent job but it’s always a shame that it takes so long to resolve and is so frustrating to deal with as the buyer won’t accept responsibility and just keeps on messaging. When it does very occasionally happen to me it does stress me out a bit because of the injustice and the effort it takes to resolve. I remind myself of all the lovely satisfied buyers, it’s not even about the money on these disputed cases, it’s the deceit that gets to me. Also I’m new to your channel and really enjoying your content. You are a great storyteller and you get to the point, you’re a natural at KZbin.

So sorry you went through all that. Back in the early 80’s I collected Kinder Toys, (little toys you put together from a chocolate egg). They are sold in almost every county now, but back then they weren’t. I traded, bought and sold almost on a daily basis. I had an E-Bay and a PayPal account and had 100’s of positive feedbacks, never a negative one. Having to deal with scammers was practically unheard of. I have a huge collection (5000+ items) that I have recently started to think about selling. After watching your video as well as a few others in the same position has given me second thoughts. I guess nothing is sacred in this world anymore.

I've been very fortunate as I've never had an issue as you just described, I sell some vintage doll parts etc so apart from these its very rare for me to sell any items with damage however after watching many videos I now list any TLCs, wear or damage in the Listing Title, I also now message the buyer straight after they have bought reiterating any faux pa's and it's surprising how many people don't look at all pictures and certainly fail to read descriptions! So if you have room on the Title list "Read Script" in the listing header / Title I believe this alone has enabled me to keep my 100 per cent feedback, Thanks for the info!

I used to fix laptops and sell them when fixed on Ebay but I gave up in the end, the number of times I checked the laptop before sending only to have them claim it was broken when they received it and they either return a different laptop or the same laptop with something missing like the ram or harddrive was insane. I was basically making no money because of all those fraudulent returns and gave up on the whole enterprise.

I've sold with eBay on-and-off since it launched so I've learned a few things along the way!! First is to do what you do - describe everything in detail, photograph everything too - I also use disclaimers where I can't fully test an item and I always SCREAM faults so that people can't miss them (and if in doubt I list as non-working/spares or repair even if it works) Second is to NEVER EVER ship outside of the UK - the time delay, the chances of loss or damage, language issues, differences in power systems and even cultural attitudes to used items means it's just not worth the effort! Lastly, I view every sale as a potential total-loss, there's always a chance you'll end-up with no money and no item Example: I once sold a phone as 'non working' and 'for spares only' - the buyer claimed the item was 'not working' and asked for a refund. I pointed-out it was sold as 'not working' and they said "yeah but I took it for repair and they said it's not repairable so I want a refund" and eBay gave them one WITHOUT asking then to return the phone and refused to engage further!!

I often come across the fact that it is the US buyers who often want to return something and say that they received something different from what was listed on eBay. I have shipped to at least 90 countries around the world, but the problem is always with US buyers. Perhaps for Americans it does not matter who and how to deceive.

However eBay covered me from the start saying my funds were safe regardless of the outcome due to it being through GSP. Perhaps that's why your funds weren't on hold. Sounds painful. From my experience of painful / scam buyers over the years I would suggest he wasn't a scammer or trying to screw you over. A scammer isn't ever giving an apology, that's for sure! Seemed to just be misinformed and not understanding what had happened. Customers are often in denial of their own mistakes, but especially when they don't even realise what they've done. I've been looking up images for products before on google and if it comes up with an ebay image and you click through to the listing, if that listing is then out of stock it can then redirect you to a very similar listing that's the not exactly the same but is in stock. So whether something like that happened and he got sent to your listing from a new one I don't know. Glad it got resolved though. GSP is pretty perfect for sellers, esp with how they cover INRs, but INADs can be a nightmare with eBay expecting you to provide free international return labels. Thankfully rarely had an issue but when they do come up it can be very tricky.

Sounds like that guy admitting he were wrong, is what won you that dispute. That's the kinda thing stopping me from doing ebay, as what I want to sell, all have a 50-50 chance of working maybe once, or not work at all (cassette, cd, and 3.5 floppy media - upto 40 yrs old). At this point, what I want to sell is now more like, boxes and jewel cases for the box art, with original media that may or may not work.

I love eBay ever since they started siding with the buyer once WISH, Alibaba, Amazon, etc started taking much of their business. I have only had one problem where eBay did not side with me. Also, an important note to mention for a buyer - NO NOT accept the "we'll send you another one" if an item is damaged or did not arrive: the seller is waiting for the dispute timer to run out (which has increased to 120 days!! Way to go eBay)

One to say it had arrived, then one a couple of days later to say they had sent it on. Last night i got a message off the buyer saying it still hadn’t come, and the tracking was saying it hasn’t moved since December the 21st! EBay have now frozen the funds on me! Payment dispute cases should be dealt with between eBay and the bank and NOT passed onto the seller as these are to do with bank details potentially being fraudulently used and sellers dont have access to the buyers bank details. I sold two items separately to one buyer over a three day period. Both sent signed for and both safely delivered with positive feedback. Three months later a payment dispute case was opened up on one item and 24 hrs later another on the second item. I lost both cases and had to pay extra fees . I'm a private seller and only sell bits and pieces so had no idea this could happen. I fought this and eventually won as apparently the buyer had done this before. Still can't give buyers negative feedback though can we?
@serialcoins3 күн бұрын
You were lucky here. I always prefer a buyer to open a paypal case rather than an ebay case. If a buyer opens a "not as described case" on paypal, you simply ask them to return it for a full refund. and the buyer has pay postage fees and supply proof of postage and proof of delivery in order to get a refund. Ebay is different. If a buyer opens a "not as described case" - there is no debating back and forth, no independent person to make a decision. With ebay you MUST accept the return and you must pay for the return postage. The real problem happens is when the buy insists you have to send them $110 to return a watch and it must be sent via TNT overnight delivery. Or the buyer claims not to have paypal and you are on the hook to supply a postage label. If you do this it will cost you $50

Hi James, Interesting story - thank you. Q. I'm kinda scared of using GSP - here's why. My understanding is that my responsibility as a seller is to get the parcel to the eBay's U.K. distribution centre an that's it - eBay take over from there. Sounds great so far. However, if the buyer (in another country, obviously) wants to return the item for any reason, then I as the seller have to pay for the return. Lots of buyers know this, and so they ask for a refund knowing that you (the seller) won't want to pay the shipping cost of the return. So, they end up with the product for free. Have I got this wrong and, if so, please can you correct me! 🙂
