So... Here's the thing. I've recently got myself a gift - a MicroFreak. It's a very exciting piece of technology. I wasn't completely sure about it, when I was buying it, but something was telling me, that I'm making the right choice. And so far, I'm only reassured in my decision.
My first jam with the MicroFreak, was supposed to be a chill ambient piece. But when Jamuary came around, I just couldn't resist this playful looking synth, and while playing around with the Virtual Analog engine, I've realized how many pleasant sweetspots it has for psytrance. So I've opened my DAW, copied only the drums and the bass from my work-in-progress goa tune, and put them in a new project. I was blown away with how much sound designing potential this thing has. And what's better about it, it's still very interactive, so my knob tweaking tendencies are more than welcome to assist the on-board modulations. It creates all sorts of cool results, part of which you get to see here. Enjoy!

Yup! Technically, Volca Drum is a synth too, but it's far from a conventional one, for sure. Feels great to own something that covers a wide range of sounds. Really happy with the MicroFreak so far!

Sounds amazing! Are you able to create psychedelic sounds with this one standalone or do you need other gear too? I would love to have a standalone synth to create psychedelic stuff😵‍💫

It depends on what you're trying to do. MicroFreak is capable of making a variety of sounds, but it's not really possible to make a full blown tune on it. It's great for sound design, but you'd still need something for drums and bassline. Also, it doesn't have any built in FX, so in my case, I'm heavily relying on plugins for reverbs and delays. It's a great synth, but if you're looking for something to make full tracks, I'd recommend searching for a groovebox, like Korg Electribe 2, for example. I don't own one, but saw a ton of cool psychedelic tunes on KZbin made on that machine. :) Hope this helps!

@@Chaotrick wow dude the Electribe 2 looks really amazing, definitely seems to be the direction I wanna go. I just wonder if its capable of creating own sounds. I really do want to create sounds myself instead of just combining pre made samples. Do you know if thats the case with the Electribe and with grooveboxes in general?

@@Ocrast There are two versions of Electribe 2: Synth and Sampler. Both have internal synth engines, although the Sampler one has less of them. Different grooveboxes have different functions and workflows, so you'll have to research it yourself and see what suits your vision the most. ;)

Not sure, but I think that sooner or later I'm gonna go for a longer goa jam with this machine. And definitely going to use it during producing sessions.
