Saw Focus in the early 70's and as paul Levine mentioned: one of the best show I've ever seen in my life Jan Ackerman was a monster guitar player at the time who did not get the recognition that he was due.

Jan is Absolutely brillant, I had the uppertunity to work with the group Focus in the seventies. With the start-up from the world tour as a sound engineer with a hudge PA system. In that time a was working for Saris Musical Instruments (SMI). I'm also playing gitar my self, so I have learned a lot of Jan Akkerman. Uptill now he is an miracle player and for sure the best of the World top players. This, how he plays you cannot learn, you only can feel It. Gr. Wim Rotterdam

Dit maakt Jan Akkerman tot de uniekste gitarist in de hele wereld, mijns inziens. Hij speelt totaal onverwachte melodieën. Geen geijkte loopjes, maar altijd weer totaal andere riffs. Fantastisch!!!

I had a chance to spend a few hours with Ian. Such a humble person. It was in Osijek Croatia, while Ian had a tour with Stefanovski. It was such a great time. After the show, Vlatko left to his hotel room, I wish that Vlatko joined the after party, but he was tired. He went, than two guitars, Ian and me, I tell you it can build you up high as a player. Thank you Ian, God bless you. You are a - m - a z -i -n -g. Guitar player and a man.

Really a great guitarist. Not having discovered him earlier in my life is a little sad. Of course I do remember the Hocus-Pocus-Focus but at that time I was about to focus on classical music and so lost track of most of what was going on in pop, rock and jazz for a long period. But now, thanks to KZbin, I fill in many gaps. And what a gap it was not to follow Jan Akkeren in his career!

Jan Akkerman vervolg ik sinds de midden 1960er jaren, verschillende "Focus" optredens in NL meegemaakt, laatste was op het JAZZ Festival in Düsseldorf( 2007) ,waar hij zijn Les Paul in aktie had, maar toen brak een E snaar, maar hij met zijn buddy's wisten dit grandioos te overspelen, je merkte het niet, heb foto's van dit zeer goede concert genomen, Jan is een heel goede gitarist eigen stijl met een hoog improvisatie talent, elke "gig" is een belevenis! Geen commerciële muzikant, recht voor zijn raap, zoals mijn vrouw zegt " eine guter Typ" keep going Jan! Stay healthy! Groeten van een NLér uit Dusseldorf!

ja klopt! Maar ik ben sinds 1979 niet meer woonachtig in mijn vaderland, ik heb door de jaren heen mijn Nederlandse taal met vele Duitse vermengd, maar uw opmerking is juist! Ik heb het Duitse "vervolgen" vernederlandst in "vervolgen" wat natuurlijk een andere gevoelswaarde heeft! Nogmaals dank voor uw kommentaar, uw naam is het noorden een veelvoorkomende naam ik ben oorspronkelijk uit Groningen! Wens u een goede start in de week, en hopen we weer op een goed concert van Jan Akkerman en Band!

Jan always said he was a better rhythm than lead player. Mebbe but his lead stuff is aso amazing. Guy always played what he wanted - never worried about commercial success is what I get. Love this band. Trumpet player is ace. Great post - thank you.

greetings from Md. all i can say is they were Awsome, tickets were 3 bucks , and it was at Merrieweather Post Pavillion in maryland, They played for around close to 3 hours, the opening act was Peter Framtons Camel, the set they played was similiar to the Live at the Rainbow Lp, all the stuff off Moving Waves and the first Lp , Jan played that Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul, & I remember how awsome Pierre van der L, was My favorite tune they did is my favorite of thiers Questions ,Answers,,,, Cool

Jan Akkerman gaat volgens mij gewoon lekker zijn eigen gang zonder zich ook maar iets aan te trekken van wat "anderen" daar van vinden. Waarschijnlijk hierdoor zit dit ietwat complexe mannetje ook nog gewoon goed in zijn vel en klinken veel van zijn optredens nog steeds verfrissend goed. Ik heb hem 1 keer live gezien in Poeldijk, waar hij optrad voor hooguit 20 mensen. Wonderlijk hoe hij dat toen kon opbrengen. Dijk van een gitarist!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zeg maar meer dan complex. Hij heeft op zijn eigen verdienste alles aangeboden gekregen en vrijwel alles afgewezen. Ik heb 'm een paar keer backstage mee gemaakt en toen was het gewoon een lul voor z'n fans. Ik ben ook wel eens bij een 'klein' optreden van 'm geweest en dat was hoofdzakelijk met de rug naar het publiek aan de knoppen draaien, vrijwel nonstop een kutgeluid en zeker niet te lang op het podium. Dat gezegd hebben wel een geniaal muzikant en vreselijk muzikaal. Ik ben fan.

Have always dug Jan. This performance seems to show a Miles influence. Only saw Jan once in Amsterdam at the Bimhaus on acoustic, but hope someday to see him play with a full band.
