Thanks for sharing these VERY rare interviews! I was living in San Jose, CA. at the time and I recognized Cupertino High School and that city is a suburb of San Jose. They may have been playing the concert there since their back-up band, Papa Doo Run Run, came from Cupertino. And the reporter was the late Bob Mackenzie from Channel 2 in Oakland. I also remember him well. We are just VERY fortunate that Jan survived his horrific crash and I would have rather had a part of what Jan was than no Jan at all. He lived as long as he did because of all the love he got from knowing and performing with Dean and having his many family members, friends and fans in his life. He will always be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

I didnt really know about Jan and Dean until i was 17, and saw "Deadman's Curve" when it first aired on tv. I watched it with my mom, and it helped me understand what she went through recovering and rehab after a stroke, she had to learn everything all over again( sadly, she passed in September that year at age 60). Yes, it was a miracle Jan survived the accident. I'm SO GLAD he was able to come back as far as he did, and get back up on stage and sing. God bless you, Jan (hope you're all well and rockin' out up in Heaven !), and God bless Dean for being there for him. Jan and Dean FOREVER !♥

The songs that Jan & Dean sang: Dead Man's Curve; Surf City; Drag City and Little Old Lady from Pasadena were not only great songs they also spoke about a culture that was happening on the west coast. However, much of this same culture was also going on all-over America so many could relate especially, with the cars which I believe further made their music stand out. After Mr. Jan Berry's serious accident he tried to make a comeback according to The Jan & Dean Story/Movie. I felt bad for Mr. Berry when the fans sort of gave him a hard time but had I'd been there at the performance I honestly would have said the following to Mr. Berry and Mr. Torrance: “Look Mr. Berry. I don't want any refund from you, period. I'm fully-aware you were in a serious accident so you don't need to explain anything. You and Mr. Torrance just do the best you can because the blessing is you're here and you're alive.” Rest in peace and be blessed always, Mr. Berry!:) And you too be blessed always Mr. Torrance!:)

I just knew that Jan was in an accident, and he could not sing like he used to. But from watching his video, I see he has overcome huge hurdles and was slowly singing again with Dean. Like most band singers, they had their ups and downs but Jan came out a real trooper!! As I mentioned in other places, Jan & Dean always were my favorite singers!! I had their green anthology lp, as well as other singles.

Jan definitely overcame huge hurdles! From watching these interviews, it seems that in his efforts to communicate his thoughts in speech, Jan knew exactly what he wanted to say, but it would often come out as disjointed phrases that tended to miss the subject of the conversation--I can imagine how frustrating that must have been for him. Nevertheless, Jan did a great job with the songs in their shows! I saw he and Dean perform together in 2003--it was clear that life was really becoming difficult for Jan, but he still did an amazing show!

Chguck's last number was Johnny B. Goode, which went on for like 20 minutes, and he had invited the audience to come on stage to dance, and so I did. I was doing the twist, and then this pretty lady joined me, and it was Jan Berry's wife. (ANd in case yer wondering, that was all I did was dance the twist!)
