The Janacek Quartet LP was the first recording of his two quartets I can remember hearing. A completely electrifying experience. The piano music is also wonderful. I wish I'd gotten to know the operas better. Thanks very much for this.

I wonder... How can anyone in their right mind enjoy this terrible, shrieking cacophony, let alone play it? I've been trying to listen to it but have to give up lest I go crazy. Janacek's music is even less enjoyable than that of Bartók. I totally understand why the younger generations chose to listen to hard rock or even pop in the '70s and '80s - those kinds could be more pleasing than this. Sorry, this is terrible.

No wonder you can't understand this fantastic music when your ears are polluted by Metallica and Slipknot.... These are some of the most interesting and exciting quartets I have ever known. It's not easy music to digest, but well worth doing.
