Wasn’t known in Poland? I’m sure that isn’t true. He did a few concerts in Warsaw. And he wasn’t super well known in the US to be fair.
@CoolVanVideos5 жыл бұрын
He was big in Poland back in the communist days. They sent him to many block countries to sing. We are talking back in the 60s and early 70s before he escaped to Canada. He even sang for Nikita Khrushchev when they sent him to Russia to sing. Here is a link to a 1968 show filmed in Leningrad, Russia. Of course when he came to America he had to start all over again from the bottom. Just like it says in the beginning of the movie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIHQpqmKm7icjaM

See comment and video below. He was big in Poland but long ago before he came here. Noone knew about him as back in those days they were listening to our music and not vis versa. Thanks for commenting. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIHQpqmKm7icjaM

@@javeydones5163 well, he wasn't known. I remember 90s very well, Netflix brought me here, to check who he was, after I saw the movie. I guess that he was some kind of star for polish immigants in US. Concerts in Warsaw? After the movie I rather think that could be fake?

You Guys should remember him as he was all over Eastern europe in the 50s and 60s. Where were you then? LOL. This vid is from 68. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIHQpqmKm7icjaM

The Netflix movie is hilarious 😂🥰 I'm from Hazelton and I grew up with polka everything. The hot dog talk is especially hilarious 🤣🤣 Jimmy's quick lunch on Broad st. It was the place to be and Jan ate there for lunch all the time. I remember him in the funfest parades.. they all dressed in these rhinestone covered, feathers on the back, outfits. My grandparents loved this guy. Smh I can't believe this movie 😂😂

She should have went. He knew the Pope in Poland when he was young as his uncle went to the seminarian with him. All audiences were already approved before we went. over 30 times and everyone on the tour got a photo with the Pope. I myself have over 30 pics with the Saint. The segment in the movie was made up just to be Jack Black funny but we let it go.

I've always loved polka. I listened to it with my father, I listen to it with my kids. My daughter has ASD and whenever she has a crisis we listen to Jan (not just polka, Jan) and she calms down instantaneously. I guess she's Jan's biggest fan

I'm here because I saw a movie on netflix. In Poland, he is an unknown figure. This genre of music and this type of culture is not the native part of Polish culture in Poland. Nobody plays or listens such music in Poland. Polka music is played only in the Czech Republic, Germany , Austria. Switzerland. Croatia and Slovenia. Pennsylvanian Polka is a synthesis of cultures of immigrants from Central Europe

As a Pole I agree👍

shame, really admired this music as being apart of Poland
@conigonde2 жыл бұрын
@E. B. Listen, our great great grandparents brought it here from somewhere, it definitely has origins in central European folk music. It's fun at big parties, like outdoor weddings, nothing to be ashamed of.
@TracyR4 Жыл бұрын
You're so full of yourself. There is actual video of him in Warsaw , Poland singing Polka music. To say that Polish people never listened to it is a bold face lie. Not to mention it's been the Poles that come over here and market Polka as Polish music. So, you need to blame the people of your own country for that. It's become part of Polish-American culture here because of that. So next time you want to say that Poles don't listen to Polka,, they may not now but they have. You might want to rethink before you post. Just because you don't care for Polka, doesn't mean that Poles have never listened to it. Just because it's not part of the culture in Poland doesn't mean it's not part of the Polish American culture here in the US because it is. Take a moment to learn about the Polish culture here in the US. You offensive jerk. Jan Lewan was the Polka King and Bobby Vinton the Polish Prince. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYHddY2gjtiIqtE

That endless kleenex-box dispenser of red polyester audience-bait is a hilarious touch. What a shame that nobody featured in Tiger Beat magazine ever figured that out. Just think: EVERYONE could have a piece of, say, David Cassidy or The Bay City Rollers. Also, I can't get it out of my head that this song title should be spelled, "Olay Olay," even though it wasn't actually Rula Lenska in that old TV ad.
