Hi Jan & Duade, thank you both so much ! Awesome you're making again a video together, like in my early "birding" days nearly 4 years ago when I was still using my 70D & EF100-400Lii and I haven't skipped a video of both of you since then (even when I maybe "only" commented 90%, heheh). Both living in Victoria back then made it clearly easier to shoot together. I've also become a fan of Glenn and the BirdPhotographyShow .. but nothing beats the magic between you two ! You both are responsible for turning an early passion into a strong addiction, and I'd be in huge trouble if I hadn't "contaminated" my wife with the same passion 😛 Even when I'm still resisting Adobe, I learned a lot from you and I'm grateful you're always open to exchange ideas. May life be kind to your and your loved ones in 2025 !

I look forward to both of you guys as some of the most authentic and unbiased reviewers, and also super informative with regard to all things wildlife photography related. I am still just a dabbler in wildlife shooting as I still consider landscape shooting to be my favorite photography pastime (along with astrophotography) but I always like to watch your videos especially Jan as they are always so well thought out and really helpful. If I ever do catch the bird photography bug completely I know I will be investing in some of your excellent training material. I consider you, Glenn, and Duade to me a real amazing trio of guys. Hope all 3 of you have a great holidays, and once again, thanks for all the hard work and early mornings that it takes to put these kind of videos together!

Two of the best photographers on KZbin, or anywhere for that matter :) For myself, the 200-800 is the Holy grail for small bird photography. I think the 100-500 and the other brands of 150-600's are great lenses too. Just not long enough for 95% of my shooting. It kills me that I have "no choice" but to shoot with the R7. Come on Canon, please step it way up with the R7 Mk II !!! It's kind of funny to hear folks talk about a 1280 mm equivalent combo, like 'Oooh Aweee' ! :) lol After close 400K shots with a 1280 mm combo (I shot with 800 F11 a TON as well) this feels completely normal. Oh, and the vast majority of my shooting, is birds that are from 18-30 ft from me. Heat haze is never an issue ;) I still really like (prefer ?) birds in my face. But now that I have the 200-800, I can back off for a wider environmental shot > after I've taken 600 closeups, to insure 4 or 5 really good ones :) lol Folks often talk about "the cost" of the big primes in $$$, but one very big, often overlooked cost, is that of versatility. I would love to have an 800 F5.6, but even if I did, I think I'd only use it about 5% of the time, and that would be in situations where I had such low light, it left me with no other choice. Great video guys :) Thank you :)

Great video, guys!!! I always watch the two of you individually, so two for one is awesome. I hope you do this again. In the US, yes, just a one year warranty. What do we do about this? I buy the additional Canon Carepak warranty for 3 or 4 years additional. It covers the camera or lens for accidental damage as well. I've just gotten used to thinking of this as part of the price of the camera or lens. It's worth it for peace of mind. I've already sent my 100-500mm lens in twice for internal dust cleaning and one time for a replacement of the first element of glass. All was covered, even the shipping cost both ways. I've learned so much from the both of you. Jan, your technical tutorials (camers set-up) on bird photography have been so helpful. Editing tips too. I finally started using LrC and Ps in 2024. Duade, your videos are so motivational as far as getting out and getting those photos. So many great tips for composition and environment.Your videos are very relaxing to watch. Plus, you have given us great set-up tips too, especially for the R5 II. Thank you both for an exciting, encouraging, and educational 2024. Yes, more of these dynamic duo videos, please, in 2025. Wishing you both (your families as well) a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. I can't thank you both enough. Thank you!!! -Cathy, NJ, USA

Great discussion! Particularly enjoyed the topic of creamy backgrounds vs. including some habitat. I have become passionate about bird photography and recently purchased a Canon R5 and 200-800mm zoom. I find the F6.8-9.0 generally allows enough background blur for the bird to pop with 3-dimensionality but leave some clue as to the habitat. I'm OK with that and, as Jan alluded to, the prime lens perfect background can sometimes look a bit artificial. I think the public (vs. other photographers) probably appreciate some habitat and the connection to reality it provides. Thanks for all you guys do for us! Have a great holiday.

Loving the video and also your praise for the 200-800. Unfortunately I live in the cold wet part of North West England and get loads of photos of ducks, swans and the odd Heron, a few robins and swifts. Nothing too exotic unfortunately. So the photos become somewhat repetitive.

The guarantee for Canon in the UK is 12 months, 5 years makes me envious. I had my R5 ii freeze the other day and to sort it I had to remove the battery so I hope if it persists canon will help me out.

If this will be a regular event it could be great. Especially if you both keep your overall styles. Loved the dynamic duo guys. More please! Thanks for the additional breakdown on the 200-800 - very helpful. Planning to buy as soon as I can find one in Colombia - at a reasonable price. Import fees are crazy. Quick question: thanks Jan on the eye-opener regarding UV filters impacting quality, but what about circular polarizars? I use them all the time to counter leaf sheen - even in dark forest interiors, and especially when it's wet. And I'm a little hooked on the added saturation they provide regardless. Would value any comments. Keep up the great work!

12:27 hits the point home. Be carefull of pictures rhat are way to clinical. Here in South Africa in our bigest park you are not allowed out of your car due to risk of predetors, so buttery smooth backrounds is nearly always out. so habitat shots and composing becomes very important.

Thanks for the enjoyable and informative content you both provide. Have a great Christmas and happy New Year. My understanding is that Australian consumer law determines the 'actual' manufacturing warranty on products based on a 'reasonable expectation' of the products life. That legislated protection may not be available in the USA.

Great to see both of you together! I'm on that grandfathered 20GB plan. Lately the performance of Lightroom Classic has not been so great...sucking up memory and slowing down randomly while editing. Also, generating previews seems to take a lot longer and eats up hundreds of GB on my C drive. If I import over 2000 photos I run out of space on the C drive! I've been using the 200-800 as my main lens for a year now and love it. Here's to a great 2025 guys!

Re: Adobe pricing. I have an old version of Topaz Denoise, which i like. Paid about $60 a couple years ago. You can no longer buy updates to the single-apps; you have to buy the whole $200 suite. Then, updates cost $100 bucks for a year's worth. So, for me, I'm going to stick with the Adobe photographer's package and my old version of Denoise.
