I remember this moment and broadcast. I was spending the summer with my grandparents in Oklahoma, watching Wimbledon every day. Was rooting for Novotna the entire time because of her play and personality. I remember being excited when she won and specifically remember the interviewer saying "congratulations" in a foreign language the way he did. 20 years later and I always remembered this. Odd the moments your heart and soul hold on to. Randomly googled Jana Novotna today and was shocked that she passed a year ago. Thanks Jana Novotna for your play and for an inspiring moment I'll never forget. May you rest in paradise.

Who's watching in July 2020? When it should have been wimbledon? When ever I think of my happiest Wimbledon moment this is it. Novotna was my favourite player because of the way she played and her personality , her heartbreaking loss to graf in 1993 followed by some near misses then finally winning it, was an incredible story. absolutely tragic that she is not here today, rip Jana, gone but never forgotten x

Yeah, this one here, and Ivanisevic's win. Two people that became so loved by the Wimbledon crowd, because they got so close multiple times, and then they won. I remember my 14 year old self going mental when Jana won. So sad she passed too early. Thank you for the memories.
@walterlv013 жыл бұрын
Hana Mandlikova (5:45) said in a memorial to Novotna that even through all of Novotna's personal disappointments at Wimbledon and the gravity of this triumph, that Jana actually seemed happier for Mandlikova than she was for herself because she knew this was the only Grand Slam that Mandlikova never won as a player. Says a lot about the person Jana Novotna was. RIP.

I remember I was so happy for her to win this match. And still am. I followed many of her matches, she had quite some bad losses in nearly-won matches. However, she kept coming back like no one else. In my mind, she is an even bigger champion than the biggest names who have a natural ability to close out their matches without hesitation. She was a true inspiration.

She was such an amazing athlete that was one of the reason she could play so well at the net but also on the baseline. A well deserved title even if I wish she won more titles even if I love Steffi and Monica she could have the Slam finals against them. RIP Jana thank you for your beautiful so and kindness and inspiration to keep on coming back and never said never attitude and keep fighting. I wish you would have won your last battle in life but at least you will always be remembered and loved as a great champion. Love for ever. Steevo.
