The theatre play, Janabai and Her Saintly Peers, was offered to Paramahamsa Sri Vishwananda on 13 June in 2022, in honor of His Appearance Day.
Adapted from the book, Bhakta Vijaya: Stories of Indian Saints, this play brings to life the stories of several Maharashtra saints whose lives were absorbed in Vitthala: Janabai, Naamdev, Dnyaneshwar, Savatamali, Gorakumbar and Kabir. They all lived at the same time and interacted with each other in marvelous ways. Their love was so intense and pure, every breath they took was for Vitthala. They lived in a world where only Vitthala existed for them. The Lord reciprocated their love.*
Theater has long been a powerful medium for expressing devotion to God. Through the art of performance, the narratives and stories of the Lord’s devotees become alive and tangible. The stage becomes a sacred space where the audience can witness and partake in the spiritual journey portrayed by the performers.
