Hey! great you guys are back online...Sat question... you talked about upgrading your internet connectivity. Interested in the options you evaluated and costs (if you can!) We'll be on the same 'boat' we'll both be starting w/ remote work. YES I agree w/ folks who don't want do deal w/ internet... but for us it's needed.

Glad to see you back:) 1. There are systems to process waste but can't be discharged in marina...boat: bring on another thousand. 2: To save and make your new dingy easier to clean. I owned an inflatable boat dealership. "303 Protection" Great for UV protection. You can search it on the web. 3: "Plexus" I discovered for use on windows(but is awesome on any kind of plastic type material) cleaner and protector. Again you can look it up to get all the details. I ordered cases of this for our Yacht club. You have to get the water maker working!!! I lived on a yacht for 7 years. "Never waste a TRIP." If your not a list maker, become one, it will save you time and money!

It’s great to be young. So happy for the two of you working through the issues. Life is what you make it. We’re here in Georgetown Bahamas enjoying the warmth. I have been following you for about a month and a half. What you are doing is so great. My wife and I sailed our Fontaine Pajot 42 for a number of years in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Most of the sailors we meet are retired and we were in our 60s when we started. It is so nice to see what you do and where you go with that young attitude and perseverance. Love it. It is a constant learning experience.

One trick I use for water conservation is to wash dishes in salt water. I keep a small spray bottle beside the dish strainer and when I"m done I spritz the dishes down with fresh water. This saves a lot of fresh water. As for electric, I have converted everything onboard to LED that can be. I also use a lot of oil lamps for times when bright light isn't really necessary. I have two 4D house batteries which seem to last me just fine with the 4 solar panels I have on the cabin top. I find you can pretty much turn the fridge off at night once it's down to temp and you're not going to be opening it again until morning.I often call local groceries to see if they'll deliver to a marina. You'll be surprised at how many will and for free too! I once used a small mom & pop grocery in Great Bridge VA. While I was there, I asked if they could give me a ride back to the town dock with our grocery purchase. The owner handed me the keys to an old chevy station wagon and they told me I could use it for a couple hours if I wanted to do laundry or had other errands! Amazing!!!I never plan on being any where at a certain time, I just go with the flow. I also try to anchor out almost all the time. Marina's cost money, anchoring is free! I'm completely self sufficient and I usually store enough groceries and dry goods to last at least a month or longer so this affords me to anchor out and save money and I buy items when on sail in bulk to save more money! I own a ton of tupperware!! I have started out on a very old broke down boat. I'm in no rush to finish it, tomorrow is another day. I watch little to no television I love doing projects and get a great feeling of accomplishment. Also, I find I have an idea, but sometime by not doing everything at once I seen so many other ideas out there that I've often changed my plans and it's come out better than expected. Also, I have found that other boaters have more often than not offered to help me with a project that they have an expertise in not only does that help but the job come out better than I could've done it myself! Plus it's always more fun working with someone else helping!Best of wish to your next year onboard! Good Luck! I enjoy your channel!

I was wondering if you considered bicycles? I have two passions at the moment: bicycling and sailing (although I have done very little sailing). My future dream is to become a live-aboard cruiser like you guys but also bring my bicycle with me so that whenever I get into port I can just explore on bike instead of having to get a taxi. Much more flexible and cheaper in my opinion. There are even trailers one could attach to one's bike for hauling heavier things. Just a thought.

What a really great list of items, other channels have also pointed out many of the same, Jason on GWTW, recently pointed out how much work it is but the highs make it worth it! Thanks for posting. very interested in conclusion on the choice of boat configuration, I watched your boat search videos and wondered at the time whether the saving of a non owners version was worth it. Cheers Warren

Big kudos to the three of you, sailing with a baby must introduce a lot more complications. However I suggest you put the water-maker as Priority 1 as its the single thing you can’t live without. Once you calculate the amount of time you’ve wasted over the last year ferrying water to your boat you would slap yourself

I agree, a watermaker has kept people alive in certain situations when you can’t get to shore, or dealing with bad weather/dull drums on a crossing, etc. It is one thing I won’t sail without. It allows you to feel safer and it’s a lot easier to do your own homemade laundry situation, and washing and staying clean etc. Great video, keep sailing! ⛵️

Would like some advice as to what size boat would accommodate a couple. And things to make a more enjoyable life on a boat.
@jandradventures
@jandradventures 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the kind of lifestyle you intend to lead. On the small side we've heard couples been happy living on a 30 ft monohulls/trawlers. For us, we would want either minimally a 40 ft Catamaran or a 47/50 ft monohull. But for us we want room for visitors. Ultimately we would get a 45ft Catamaran if we have more kids and can afford it.

Hey I love y’all I have two kids. They are four and three. Their mother left when my daughter and youngest was only eight months old. I know it’s hard to have a child but there’s two of you. wow. You two bit off a lot all at once. Not afraid of much are you? That's great I think. Seems like too many people now days are obsessed with being " safe" everywhere and at all times. Living in a boat is not necessarily unsafe but it is less safe in some ways than in a house on land in a city. At least you have freedoms that many never get to experience. I'm thinking about converting to boat life after living 60 years in land. Though it has been pretty good in some ways it does leave much to be desired. Perhaps it's time for a change of pace and scenery. Just need to find a way to support myself while doing it. Cheers :)

I hope it was just a poor example on your part, if not you are using the most expensive trash bags on the planet. You said that you take the dinghy to shore, Uber to the market, pick up trash bags and Uber back to the dinghy, and dinghy back to the mother ship. I would hope you are doing a minimum of one weeks worth of shopping each trip, otherwise between the dinghy and Uber your price per item is off the chart. Enjoined listening to you lessons learned.

Motoring 80% of the time is a waste of a *sail*boat. Yes. You are the limiting factor, not the boat. Buy a trawler next time so you don't need to 'waste your time' with the sails, and wind direction.

Nobody cares, just sail without making BS videos. Why is it everyone with a limited knowlege of boats and sailing, gets a boat and thinks they will make a bunch of money making nonsense videos? Just sail or don't

I like their videos... Nice to watch when its 20 below outside... I think their experience is very informative for people who don't know what they are getting into. Make videos of whatever it is you are passionate about and I bet people will watch them..

As an ex cruiser I think they summed up life on a sail boat beautifully; with some very simple information that is especially beneficial to wannabies and newbies; thanks guys for the hours you spend making these free vlogs👍
