By Royal Invitation in 1819 (aka the “Royal Race for an Heir”)
The sad demise in 1817 of the Prince Regent's only daughter and heir, Princess Charlotte, prompted other Royal family members into immediate action, and by 1819 the wait (or “race”) for legitimate next-generation heirs was over!
We extend you a cordial invitation to our 2019 Ball to mark the ups and downs of the Royal family members who entered the “Race for an Heir”.
We include dances named after them, dances from 1819 and, to celebrate the “winners”, we include the Duke of Kent's Waltz (not called) and, for his daughter and heir, the 'Queen Victoria Country Dance'.
Our short 1819-themed performance: ‘Invitation to Dance’ at the ‘Royal Race for an Heir’ Ball, is to music from Becker’s Taschenbuch of 1819 and the waltz section in Weber's 1819-published "Invitation to Dance" - the first romantic-era music to describe the pleasure of dancing with an agreeable partner!
