Every time i hear the pipes, I remember them playing at our ramp ceremonies in Afghanistan. Piping our brave fallen home. I get chills every time. I also remember the pipes on Remembrance Day. Somber and soul raking. Yet, I also remember the pipers at the unit playing at beer calls and family days. Happy toe tapping tunes that sang of ancestry and epic tales. They spoke to all of our past, no matter your background. That is the power of the pipes. Stay true.

I am a man from America, but my family is from the island Jura in the 15 century, They would say I'm am American Scotsman, but when my father died in 2015, he told me to never stop being a Scotsman that men would be glad to call you the modern Scotsman who loves his linage and his family. For many years I tried to learn the pipes, but was discouraged here in America, told the only places you have is playing at American funerals. So I gave it up at the age of 16, now at the age I am and see you play the fighting songs that embody the fighting spirit of our ancestry, I stand and give thanks to you my young cousin for giving us a voice it the world of music that in a sense, makes no sense.

Just caught this vid. Loved it. True tale it is... When I was around nine I first heard pipe music. Earned my allowance and bought an album to listen too. My mom came in and asked what was I doing. Told her. She honestly said "Mary Mother of Jesus and Joseph where did I go wrong?" By the way I'm American but my lovely mom was from Dublin. 47 years I've been listening to the bagpipes and sometimes remember that scene and it makes me happy and sad since I lost her 30 years ago. But it was funny.

Some excellent piping, no doubt. I have always found the sound of the highland war pipes alluring, even as a child when I first heard them. Since I live in the USA, I didn't learn about small pipes, musettes, and uilleann pipes until I was an adult, but I am enthralled by them all. But my first love is still the highland instrument. richard -- This is the best of all possible worlds. Finally, a statement on which both optimists and pessimists agree.
