Dude I freaking love pedals! Thank you for interviewing him, now I have a new musician to listen to

Scott, I’ve enjoyed and respected your channel for years. Adding Ian has really been both entertaining and informative, with you guys being accomplished bassists and different styles. Just expansive knowledge! I now listen to Rich Brown because of you. I’m going to get playing again, after a few decades of doing acoustic guitar/singing jobs. No idea what the amp/speaker will be, but I’ve been in contact with Chris Stambaugh about making my first custom 5 bass. Going to go through my full Helix, but also looking at pedals (in case the Helix becomes too heavy to lug around). Jazz/blues will be the preferential gigs.

I believe EP is for Echoplex, because it's supposed to immitate the preamp out of an Echoplex delay.
@timhutchinson848511 күн бұрын
Yes that’s what I assumed as well.

"What does EP stand for?" "I don't know... it gives me the preamp of a Echoplex" 😅

Now I want Janek to release sort of a 70s pØrn funk album and call it “English Pimp”

Or just, "The EP," for those who know 😅

I watch Janek's podcasts on his pedalboards a lot. You need to get Janek, Ian and Steve Lawson together in a room full of pedals for a day and see what comes out! I'd love to see that episode.... at least an hour of fun and hilarity right there. Er - Scott - are you in your vest?

The full interview with Janek on SBL is one of my favourites. Such an interesting and humble guy - I love the bit where Scott plays him some old recordings of himself and he cringes 😂

I really love that video of Janek and Jojo Mayer. He used those effects, a groovy techno kind of jam 🙂

You should try "La forja" pedals from Chile, I have a couple and they are amazing!!

I love his creativity with pedals. It’s almost like they are another instrument entirely.
@rome818012 күн бұрын
He and Tim Lefebvre seem to get more wild with pedals than any other prominent bassists out there.
@devinebass11 күн бұрын
Doug Wimbish could give them a run for their money but yes, they both do a LOT with pedals!
@eheveronsmith10 күн бұрын
Don't forget Steve Lawson! Though most of his processing is in the box, I forget what kind of unit he's using... but he makes all sorts of bonkers sounds on 6 string bass!

I have mixed feelings about Janek. He’s a genius in his own world at times. I find it sometimes difficult to follow his train of thought, which can be a bit scattered, especially when it comes to his teaching style. Dude has mad skills and can really enchant with his melodies. When I’m done listening, I sometimes come out a bit disoriented lol
@matthewgreer463510 күн бұрын
Janek is awesome as usual. He has inspired my interest in bass pedals recently. However, why haven't you covered or interviewed Mark King of Level 42? Surely his contribution to the bass playing is acceptable. Just going through some old LP's and its amazing stuff , especially the early stuff (1985). Or have I missed that episode? Cheers!

I’m mainly curious about his bass. What brand and model is it ?
@powdermex11 күн бұрын
It's a mattisson, I believe it's custom built but I might be wrong

Come on boys. Between the two of you, you dont know that EP stands for Echoplex
@theelmagoo12 күн бұрын
Umm.... he said what the EP stands for when he talked about the internal setting for it..... Echo Plex ;p Some players would use the Echo Plex EP-3 as a pre-amp in their setup, so Xotic recreated that circuit in a mini pedal.
@armignac12 күн бұрын
So his secret is an HX Stomp?
@devinebass11 күн бұрын
It's certainly a big part of his processing now!
@eheveronsmith10 күн бұрын
This interview has gotta be older, right? He's using MUCH smaller pedalboards these days, plus a different bass, the little 2 switch thing on the HX Stomp, oh my god I'm a mega bass nerd... 😬😅
@devinebass9 күн бұрын
It's not that old but yes, he has since revamped some of his touring board!

@BrickSomething12 күн бұрын
I assume it’s “echoplex” which he says is the reason he uses it a few seconds after he says he’s not sure what EP is for. 😂
@johnd94210 күн бұрын
Such utter nonsense! Bass is "Bass"! Buy a toy shop if you want, but don't dare claim you are playing bass!
@eheveronsmith10 күн бұрын
Sounds like you might have missed the fundamental lesson of music that you get to play whatever you like! 😂 Not only that, people are listening, and he's touring with his own band AND as a hired sideman, so 🤷🏼♂️ Bass is whatever a bassist says it is.
