Janet was one of the first artists to incorporate rap lyrics or hooks in her instrumentals. The Control album pioneered the New Jack Swing genre that led way for the late 80's and early 90's RNB sound. JANET is Queen of many things but people fail to realize she is the Queen of the New Jack Swing genre (pioneered by Ted Riley). She is also has the best selling New Jack Swing album for female artist. Janet is very underrated. You can argue from this point '86-2001 she was out charting her brother Michael on the domestic charts. She was also extremely innovative especially for female artists. She inspired majority of female entertainers in the early 90's including Selena and Aaliyah to name a few. Selena favorite album was Rhythm Nation before she passed and "Black Cat" was one of her favorite songs. I think because Latino audience knew more of Madonna they compared her to Madonna but even Selena wardrobe was inspired from Janet's Rhythm Nation and Janet Era. She doesn't get the credit she deserves she is a true icon and musical legend.

I don't think anyone is trying to argue that Janet is above Michael I just think you guys don't realize the impact Janet has had on artist. A lot of the artist you've reacted to on this channel specifically the female artist you've reacted to on this channel (most notably Beyonce, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Normani, Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Aaliyah, Jennifer Lopez) have all cited Janet as being an influence on them/her having an impact on their work or they have mentioned over the years being a fan of Janet's work. Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey are even in the trailer for Janet's upcoming 4 hour documentary about Janet's career that is coming out early next year. I really think you guys should watch Janet Jackson's MTV Icon Special to truly get a sense of how Janet has influenced artists across multiple genres of music.

You can't truly appreciate an artist if your basis is going to be they are not better than Michael. I think that's what they were trying to tell you. Just like y'all said, Mike is the biggest star ever. Instead of basing how good Janet is compared to Mike, just appreciate what she does well. Y'all are also tripping saying she doesn't have memorable songs lol. Janet was a Superstar for a long time. Who knows how she would be viewed if she didn't get blackballed after that Super Bowl incident.

I wouldn't say as much as Michael. When it comes to fame, success, money, etc, Michael is up there. I mean, Janet is up there but Michael is UP UP there. But both of them are legends in their own way, they both worked hard to get their shit. I'm glad Janet is still alive, the world did Michael dirty and that's what ultimately caused his death. It's amazing to see Janet up and still working.

You have an opinion and you have a right to it, but there is a huge difference between Opinion and Facts. Janet simply was bigger than Michael during all of the 90's. There simply was not a bigger artist than Janet during the 90's. It was #1 Album and #1 Hit after Hit for Janet. She was so popular that Virgin signed her to a record breaking $80 Million Dollar Contract. She broke all records with that deal. Look it up sir. Oh and she also has to this day the most Successful Debut Tour in the History of Music with Rhythm Nation. Just do the research guys. It’s not a Janet vs Michael thing smh. Two different entertainers, although they’re family. That was the point of her “Control” era back in 1986’. She wanted the media to stop looking at her as Michael’s baby sister and “shadow” like y’all put it. Personally I enjoy Janet’s discography way more than Michaels. I tend to play her music more at house parties and functions. Also Michael is like 10 years older than Janet so he got started in the business way before her.

Ummm what? Y’all age is showing big time. Janet Jackson’s songs are played still on the radio, grocery stores, gyms, malls and everywhere else under the sun. Her music (just like MJ is timeless) and for the love of God, YES WE GET IT- you’re a fan of MJ - Janet is her own person and artist, the constant comparisons is BEYOND annoying. Yes, they’re siblings and share the same blood, they are going to look, sound and act similar.

True. Janet always talked about how she was put in Michael's shadow...I mean, if you're the sister of someone as famous and successful as Michael it is extremely difficult to show the world that you have talent to. A lot of people try to bring down Janet because of how big and influential Michael was. Yes, while I do admit that the fame and success is completely different on both sides, that doesn't mean that Janet isn't a talented legend herself. I get that it's literally Michael Jackson, considerably the biggest name in the industry, but Janet is amazing as well and people should appreciate that.

Great reaction! I do have to say, don’t downgrade Janet’s accomplishments. The is an artist whose career has spanned over 40 years, from acting to music. Although Michael was huge during this time, Janet was not very far behind…Even TODAY her music lives on, timeless, Nasty, Rhythm Nation, Miss you Much, Control, Escapade…the woman’s library is nothing to play with….and those are ONLY from the 80s!

It's only natural to compare to Mike, buuuut HE said on SEVERAL occasions how much he's inspired by his sister. (You can find a video on KZbin of him saying he listens and dances to his sister's music all the time) -- But FACTS: Janet broke ground for WOMEN in the industry - NO one hit a stage like she did from this point on. Janet has songs that were released back in the 80's and 90's like her brother that are Classic Anthems. Rhythm Nation is one of the biggest Classic Anthems of All Time. Nasty, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Miss You Much are Timeless. I could go on and on. Oh and to put this to rest. Out of the Jacksons Janet ownes the #1 and #2 biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits out of ALL of the Jacksons. That's The Way Love Goes was #1 for 8 Weeks and All For You was #1 for 7 Weeks. First Janet and Michael shouldn't be compared. Two different artists with different impact. Janet, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are credited with creating New Jack Swing on the release of Control. Michael was inspired by the syncopated choreography used by his sister and stole most of the RN1814 ideas for his Dangerous and HIStory Tours. Songs like What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, Miss You Much, That's The Way Loves Goes, Together Again are songs that will last. Also Janet is the only artist to release 7 singles fron same album with all 7 hitting the top 5 including 4 number ones, the only artist to score a #1 in there different calendar years from the same album, when she signed with Virgin in 1990 is was at the time the highest any artist was paid then MJ, Madonna and Prince broke the record the next year and in 94 and 98 she again becamr the highest paid performer ever. She is the only artist to be nominated in four different performance categories at the Grammys (Pop, dance, r&b and rock) Michael begged her for years to duet and she always refused. Don't compare them. Also the band backing her is most of The Time. The Time was a side project stated by Prince

I saw this performance that night as it happened live. I remember exactly where I was and what friends house I was at. I was 23. This performance sealed my standom to be a life long Janet stan . I had always been one since childhood and we are close in age, but that night I knew she would be a force to recon with! I disagree with a lot of your criticism of Janet’s music. She has a multitude of songs that will last forever . Why do people still say to this day “What have you done for me lately” or “my first name ain’t baby” ? Rhythm Nation should replace the national anthem in my opinion. Y’all need to listen to all her albums from Janet Jackson to Unbreakable track by track , then look at her entire videography. She is the blue print for most female pop stars today, Britney’s team practically tried to make her a white Janet Jackson. Her legacy will forever be sealed in music history as one of the greatest of our time.

Actually Janet Jackson has MANY songs that will last forever and have impacted the Industry for decades to come ( please research her accomplishments) Janet's Rhythm Nation is in The National Recording Registry at The Library of Congress for that very reason. She surpassed Michael in some aspects of her career as well. AND LETS NOT FORGET , she has the ONLY Album in History to have 7 singles in the top 5 of the Hot 100. And she is 1 of the only 3 artists to have a Number One Album in Each of the last 4 Decades . (Barbara Streisand and Bruce Springsteen are the other 2) So I would venture to say that her songs are NOT forgettable.

Guys, I understand the fact that you are probably young. I bet you did'nt get to see this era in "full effect". But you will discover the impact of Janet in the 80's and 90's. This album that was nominated for "Album of the year" CHANGED the landscape of pop or R&B. "Control" had 4 #1 singles. The next album, Rhythm Nation 1814, is the only album in history to spawn seven top five singles on the Billboard Hot 100. She's been nominated for an Academy award for her song "Again" and even was the best payed performer (above Michael and Madonna) when she signed a record breaking deal with Virgin records for $80 million dolares for 4 albums. Jlo, Beyonce, Britney, H.E.R., Britney and Gaga have stated that she's been a major influence. I'm sure you get what I try to tell you. Keep on looking for her work

I have to agree with a lot of the comments and add the fact that you 2 are too young to really appreciate the impact that Janet had on the industry, especially for female artist, although Micheal opened the door for a lot of artist to be appreciated in pop culture especially “MTV” Janet really showed that women could be as influential as well. Janet & Madonna blazed the trail for women in that era as far as entertainment goes. And Whitney was the blueprint for vocals but you can see in some of her videos as well that Janet had some influence on her too. ( I wanna dance with somebody ) used some dance elements from this Grammy performance. Check it out if you don’t believe me. Janet’s videos also influenced women across the industry whether they were vocalist and or entertainers.

Also check out some of The Time’s material and you can see the influence that their vibe had on this performance, this was not “ pop” it had a very heavy “ funk” influence from the time, WHYDFML, is an R&B track, I still love it too!! For example, many reactors pause at certain intervals or after the first verse or chorus. Stuff like that. Nothing kills reaction videos more than pausing every couple of seconds. Don't get me wrong, I expect pauses, I know how the game works. So that means I also know that there's absolutely no need for one of y'all to pause, say something, resume, and then the other pause like 2-5 seconds after that. I counted, y'all paused this video 5 times during the open before she even got to the actual song. That opening was only about 25 seconds. Like, come on brah........ Bro keeps saying “That’s Michael” no it’s not.. it’s Janet put some respect on her name and both of them influenced each other they’re siblings. Every move she makes isn’t Micheal.

Can you react to Janet Jackson - doesn't really matter live 2001
@UltimateBrody3 жыл бұрын
Why, so they can just say she’s not good and MJ is better? Lol every reaction is the same. They can’t separate her and appreciate her as an artist in her own right. But they can praise artists SHE has inspired. Make it make sense.

@@UltimateBrody I thought when they saw Scream, they'd be like "Damn, Janet IS just as amazing as MJ" but no. It's just Michael Michael Michael (In the Jan Brady voice)

This performance was choreographed by Paula Abdul
@UltimateBrody3 жыл бұрын
No it wasn’t. Barry Lather choreographed this, along with the Pleasure Principle video. Sucks for Barry that people automatically believe Paula did everything from Control when she only did three videos.

@@UltimateBrody I know he choreographed pleasure principle. I didn’t know he worked on the Grammys. They must have done some of it together or they used some of Paula’s moves. There’s a lot of “Paula” choreo in this performance like the assisted lift midway at the Nasty section
@ZacharyJPearse3 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateBrody and she did 4 videos. Nasty, What have you done for me lately, When I Think Of You, and Control

This was actually choreographed by Paula Abdul. There’s a different Live performance that was choreographed by Barry Lather. And yes, Paula Abdul did choreographed 4 Videos from the Control era.
