This video was iconic when it was released as it was the 1st time the world saw a slimmed down Janet, baring skin like this. It was a reinvention and awakening from the covered up, all black serious nature of Control and Rhythm Nation. This new image for her was so shocking, I remember watching it with friends when it premiered and none of them thought that was her in the opening sillohette. No one (but me) believed she was that svelte. That opening silohette was everything...the tease before the big reveal of what she was about to unleash on the world. ***Also, when this video was originally released it was all in black and white. They later added the color parts for a new alternate version.

Janet was gorgeous here, but sorry, her NEW SLIMMED DOWN LOOK debuted on her 6th release from 'Control' in The Pleasure Principle" video (1987) 2-years before this (1989). All 5 releases from Control prior Janet was chunky, all those big padded clothes, numerous ppl and dancers in all her vids...then her 6th release, the Pleasure Principle was a shocker....NEW JANET, slimmed down w/her mid-drift showing in just jeans and that black t-shirt tied up in the front at her waist, just her in the warehouse dancing, all those moves now thin, she had even ditched the big hair for that silky straight hair in the vid. I recall even radio when they would play the Pleasure Principle saying HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW JANET?! Yeah she's stunning in this vid, and I can see why the remarks of her appearance, but she had debuted new slimmed down Janet 2-years earlier in The Pleasure Principle.

Yes! This is actually my favorite Janet song actually, it's pure eargasim. Like you said top notch, it just goes so many places in 1 song, the vocal layering is masterful, how the lead vocals shows off her range from her low notes to her highest high, there's nothing else quite like this song, and live its just a phenomenal audience interaction moment. Yea there's no choreography for this because she was either on tour or basically done with the tour so it's usually around that point the videos are a tad simpler, but thus was a massive change, this was the first video she showed as much of her skin as she showed, Rhythm Nation wea you think of layers of clothes & jackets & coats & turtle necks & button down shirts & jet black hair, but this video with her in tight jeans that top & blonde hair was the birth of the image of "Janet the sex cymbal ".

Hola Dereck! This Song & Video was a huge Hit when it first came out & is still one of my favorites by Janet to this day! By the way the Black male model in the video is none other than Djimon Hounsou who played "Cinque'" in Spielberg's 1997 movie " Amistad". He also appeared in Music videos with Paula Abdul, En Vogue & Madonna ( Express Yourself) as well as in 40+ Movies.

This is directed by the Great Herb Ritts. He was a great photographer who also shot Madonna's Cherish video. I never knew all of the facts behind the songs and music, but I was touched. Before a certain year, it was innocent. No longer...

With Janet’s “Rhythm Nation” album this was the 7th and last single and video from the album and most of the videos leading up to this one had beautifully showcased Janet’s masterful skills as a tomboyish dancer. The idea of this video was to showcase her womanly beauty. For instance, in all her videos before this one, her wardrobe choices were always very conservative with outfits that were high in the neck, long sleeves, gloves, long pants, and boots. This was the first time the world saw this much skin on Janet and because of this new surprising image she adopted, she became a sex symbol.

This song was released in late October of 1990. This music video was directed by the late fashion photographer Herb Ritts who was Madonna's regular photographer in the 80s. He also directed Madonna's Cherish music video, Chris Isaak's Wicked Game music video and Michael Jackson's In The Closet music video.This music video features one of Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour and Girlie Show backup dancer Carlton Wilburn. There is a bald, black male model/actor whose name I can't recall right now. In the song there's the jazz/pop trumpeter Herb Albert playing towards the end of the song.

This song is not a big deal now but back in the day 20 years ago or so,Janet used to be in black from head to toe and wear turtlenecks. This was a huge shock I remember this song went to number one faster than you can even blink.
