Janet is wearing a Zoot suit, which was very big in the big band and Jazz days. The Nicholas Brothers were the two men who came out the back door and started dancing as soon as Janet and the guys walked into that door. To see them and Cab in their younger days perform together, I suggest you watch the scene they are all in from a movie. Cab performed his song Jumpin Jive with a big band orchestra, and the Nicholas Brothers performed one of THE MOST AMAZING and very difficult tap dancing routines of all time...and they did it all in one take. Watch the video...Cab Callaway Jumpin Jive Definitely react to that.

Janet Jackson is an amazing artist, I love her full body of work. I feel so lucky to have been able to see her live in concert last year. She is a true performer. I’ve already commented somewhere on a video that she put on a great show, she sang well and danced so athletically. She preformed better than half the artists out today, and she probably has more stamina than most people in their thirties. I’ve only ever been to four concerts and she was the best.
@greatodinsraven1Күн бұрын
It wasn’t until re-watching these old Janet videos that I realize how much she was always paying homage to those that came before her. Wish newer pop stars did that more. Modern pop stars owe so much to Janet from her dancing to the way she played around with themes of femininity & masculinity and her public stance on social justice issues. Iconic.

This was introduced during a wonderful time in music. The video was an integral part of a song's success, so artists and record labels put a lot of money into production. And it wasn't just the lyrics and music-the video told the story. And it provided the opportunity for videos like this. This video introduced a generation to dancer Cyd Charisse, pioneering dancers The Nicholas Brothers, and entertainer Cab Calloway. And now, through your reaction, another generation will learn about Janet, Heavy D, Cyd, Cab and The Nicholas Brothers. They are part of the history of dance, music, and Black culture.

Cab Calloway was a legendary jazz singer. The whole video was in tribute to him and others of that era like the Nicholas Brothers who were tap dancers. The brothers made a cameo too. The way Janet is dressed is how Cab would. He was known for his scat singing and jazz band as well as his energy and charisma. He regularly performed at the Cotton Club in Harlem in NYC which I dont think exists anymore. The club was very popular and shows would be broadcasted on radio. I would recommend some videos of his work but theyre from the 40s, 50s and 60s so I dont think it would get high votes but Ill try to see if it will

So my parents talked about when they lived on a certain street here in Kansas City. And on that street, there's a grassy median that separates northbound and southbound traffic. That median had a park area with a pergola, benches, trees, etc. And sometimes when the weather was cool, people would just put sheets or blankets on the ground and sleep outside. A lot of times it was because there was no air conditioning in the building. So a cool breeze outside felt more comfortable than a hot bedroom inside. Of course, there's the other explanation of folks were having a good time the night before and just didn't make it home so they slept outside.

This is my favorite Janet Jackson video of all time! Since y'all are a bit short on your Hollywood history, let me help you. There is so much to break down in this video. The video was styled to resemble 1930s and 1950s musicals. Janet Jackson paid tribute to the old Hollywood greats in this video. Firstly, there was Cab Calloway, the king of scat singing. Calloway was a jazz singer and bandleader (and actor). His band included several greats, including Dizzy Gillespie. Calloway was a regular performer at the Cotton Club in Harlem, where he became a popular vocalist of the swing era. His niche of mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years. Calloway was the first African-American musician to sell one million copies of a record. He became known as the "Hi-de-ho" man of jazz for his most famous song, "Minnie the Moocher", originally recorded in 1931. He also appeared in film. He wore zoot suits, more specifically, he wore a yellow zoot suit in the movie STORMY WEATHER and on the cover of his album HI DE HO. The zoot suit originated in Harlem in the late 1920s with jazz musicians. Calloway was one of the first Black fashion icons and was known for his flamboyant drapes. He described the look as "dipped from you lid to your treaders. . . you know... you were sharp". Cab Calloway is rumored to have been the father of Ja'Net DuBois (Wilona Woods from GOOD TIMES). Secondly, there were the Nicolas Brothers (the two men who tapped danced). The Nocolas Brothers were real-life brothers Fayard and Harold. Fayard was a self-taught tap dancer, acrobat and singer, and he taught his younger brother all that he knew. In 1932 when Fayard was 18 and Harold was 11, the two became the featured act at Harlem's Cotton Club. They appeared in several movies, were in television, played clubs, concerts and Broadway. They gave a Royal Command Performance at the London Paladium for King George VI in 1948. Lastly, there was Cyd Charisse, who was a dancer and actress. She appeared in movies with several greats, including Fred Astaire. Cyd and Fred were in the movie THE BANDWAGON, in which they performed the dance "The Girl Hunt Ballet", on which Michael Jackson's video to his song SMOOTH CRIMINAL was based. In the video, Janet and her two male friends are really homeless. You see the hustle and bustle of the city. The three wives nagged because that's what wives do, LOL!! Perhaps they were late for work. Who knows. They actually ditched work and hustled people instead with their card tricks. They saw their wives coming down the sidewalk pushing their babies in the carriages, so they quickly ducked off into the pay phone booths because THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN AT WORK! Later, the trio stopped to peep in on girls only to discover ladies were their own wives! Seems the wives were living double lives, too! You see the "blind" man with his own hustle. He only pretended to be blind so that people would give him money. As it turns out, Janet had dreamed the entire event. There was even a dream inside of a dream, when Janet envisioned herself as the glamoured-up "date" of Cab Calloway. While she daydreamed this vision, she was accidentally pushed to the red carpet and Cab Calloway took her hand and offered her and her friends a ride is his limo in which Janet lost her pocket watch. The end of the video shows a homeless Janet, along with her two homeless friends sleeping on the bench. Cab Calloway returns her watch. When she wakes up, she will have a surprise waiting for her and a great story to tell her homeless pals. . .
