Both sides "Can" be front. The front side is simply the "intended" front. Both are built so that the vehicle can be driven from either side. It was done so that a vehicle of this size wouldn't need to turn more often than it needs to.

Really nostalgic to see this one! I remember staring at this set in catalogues and stores and thinking it was SO COOL! I remember feeling so accomplished when I was able to figure out the build of the jetpack from the box art, and recreated it with my own pieces. Ah, good times. The tower DOES retract into the body.....if you twist it far enough, the technic part on the end of the axle snaps out of the groove it's in, and the whole thing retracts

There is actually a way that you can retract the observation tower if you built correctly and was actually a main action feature of the set. If my memory is sound then the tower is held in place by a 1X2 thin technic axle piece through a gap in the brick build. If you slightly lift and then twist the tower should retract down. Nice review of a classic set that I had when I was growing up. Keep up the good work.

Great review! I had so many memories with this set and I cant believe mine is almost 10 years old. I still have it in one piece and it is still one of my favorite sets till this day! I had the 2006 version also but on mine, the trans blue grills on the speeder engines and troop bay are a solid light blue color. I also remember opening up the hollow area between the engines and troop compartment to store the little turret that came with the 2007 clone battlepack.

I actually own the 2005 version. The guard post has a piece that when turned counter clockwise, it will disengaged the post, shown in step 28 in the instructions. Very good review by the way, I really enjoy your videos if theses "older sets".

In my humble opinion, this was the best Juggernaut Lego ever made. For me, it is also my favorite set they made, I remember getting it at Christmas in '05 and playing with it straight until '06. Unfortunately, I made the idiotic mistake of selling it a few years ago. However, I kept the Kashykk trooper because, well, he's just awesome.

I don't mean to be rude, but there is no front or rear. In addition, the watchtower can be raised and lowered. The tan Technic piece attached to the axle (connected to the watchtower) fits into a 2x2x1 space. If you turn the piece so that it is no longer in that space, it will lower. The tan piece will just rest under a Technic brick the one above the two 2x3x1 slopes) when lowered. This is mentioned in the instructions.

On film they're always shown driving large end first, the officially sanctioned cutaway indicates the hatch on the large section is the "Commanding officer's observation hatch," the lights at that end are called "headlights" not taillights, the telescoping observation tower is that end. This is also how it was originally depicted in the ~1979ish concept sketch. I don't know how else to interpret the preponderance of the evidence and canon than to conclude that is the designated front. It can indeed be driven either way, just as can a tracked tank, but it's not longitudinally symmetrical, so there has to be a front and a rear.

Hey Jang, Enjoyed the video but a few things to note. The observation post (on the 2005 version at least) can be lowered so that the bottom rests on the roof if you rotate the whole thing 90 degrees as that will move the thing holding it up out. And the 2006 version actually has 1 more regular clone than the 2005 version as a trade off for the lightsaber. As someone who Definately got the play value out of it, I'd argue that despite its flimsy feel it does hold together well (except for that main door tab). Either way great video and it was interesting seeing the differences between the 2005 and 2006 versions.

I seem to remember this set being quite fragile, it was solid enough to play with but picking it up to place on a shelf was sketchy. At least in my experience all them years ago. I just remember picking it up and some part of the main body would fall off which would make the whole thing just disintegrate in my hands. In fact I broke my light up Mace Windu because it fell apart on me and snapped the lightsaber off

The character selection is 10x better in this set than the recent ones. One Jedi, 3 normal clones, one special clone, and one higher ranking clone is greater than 3 Jedi 1 famous clone and 1 normal clone. Legos figure selection is disappointing me these days

I think it's a cash grab thing, like they release a whole wave of sets each with exclusive figures and you the buyer may want a certain one so you buy that set. Like figures that go together and what not. Or at least I think that's how they work.

I have the 2005 version with the light up light saber and it only had 2 normal troopers instead of 3. At 3:52 you should not be able to lower the side panels line that, you are missing a dark grey 7 long lift arm that should be connected to the light grey pins at the top ends of the Technic bricks on the sides. The one you got must have had a harder life then mine because the ratchets for the sides on mine are still stiff and do not wobble. they still press in though when you grab making it hard pick up.
